This is surprising, especially given that Tesla's infotainment interface is quite good already. Unfortunately, this will have a harmful effect on R2 sales if Tesla gives existing Y owners CP and Rivian continues to be a hold out. Regardless of individual opinion in this forum, CP/AA integration are important to the majority of car buyers and might make Y owners looking to escape Musk's antics look away from R2.

Rivian copied Tesla's CEO pay package, maybe they should copy their (rumored) Carplay adoption.

They’ve copied lots of things from Tesla. This will be the next thing they copy. No way they’re going to continue to resist when the software is already so far behind Tesla. Hopefully will free up resources to focus on autonomy which has no such easy button solution.

$4.6 billion vs $1 trillion is a copy?
They also sorta copied Optimus with Mind Robotics haha
Industrial automation (robotics) is a copy of a humanoid robot controlled by humans behind the scene?

If that's the case, then both Rivian and Tesla copied *me* and my robotics company from 25 years ago.

Rivian will certainly feel the pressure if Tesla offers Carplay. I personally prefer a well thought out infotainment over relying on Carplay, but with literally everyone else offering it, Rivian might have to cave.

RJ’s stock award increasing based on what RIVN stock price is distinctly an Elon type of pay.

It is not usual for a stock award to depend directly on the stock price

I will never understand how Tesla is considered to have the best infotainment in the business when it is still complete and total garbage. Terrible at reading and sending texts. We use Tidal and it will only shuffle the top few dozen songs in a playlist, which is a form of psychological torture. Changing songs too quickly causes it to crash. YouTube is a glitchy mess that barely functions. No Waze-like ability to see or tag road conditions. I had wireless AA in my previous Alfa and it was effortless and way more capable. There is zero reason why Tesla and Rivian cannot collect and sell everything about you, while also giving you phone projection capability that was mainstream ten freaking years ago.

If the Tesla rumors are true, Rivian will have no choice but to offer CP/AA as it would be a significant competitive disadvantage not to do so. They DESPERATELY need R2 sales to do well in an increasingly difficult micro/macro economic climate. You have to incentivize consumers and having a significant competitor offering a product the majority of consumers want is potentially catastrophic if you don't respond in kind.

You have to ask yourself why Tesla would capitulate to AA/CP adoption at this stage of an extremely mature company? Tesla sales are also very down and they are looking to lower barriers of entry for customers and adding AA/CP is clearly something they think will do that.

RJ I hope you are listening.

This is because Telsas are all old and undesirable now. Couple that with Elon being a lunatic and you have sales dropping like a stone. Yet another idiotic decision from Elmo and company, they spent the last 10 years talking about how great their software is, only to capitulate to CarPlay.

It's not their software that's responsible for their lagging sales; it's everything else about their cars. Their cheap-looking interiors without a driver screen, their dumb decisions for yokes and turn signal buttons, lack of an overhead camera, and stagnated designs are the major reason for their sales decline. Other companies that make more compelling vehicles have entered the EV space and pretty much all of them make better vehicles. Tesla's only strength was their software, so CarPlay isn't going to help.
