Apple Music keeps buffering

After the most recent update Apple Music worked perfectly for the first few days before it gradually started glitching. The UI works fine and I can navigate and search for music but nothing will play. At first it happened only when starting the car, now it just doesn’t work ever. I tried logging out of Apple Music, soft reset, infotainment reset…nothing worked. All other music sources work fine.

Has anyone else had this issue and fixed it?

You’re not alone - mine did the same. Tried signing out and soft resetting multiple times and in various orders with no effect. Tried disabling Spatial Audio - nothing. Next stop is full vehicle reset but just haven’t had the time to leave the car alone to do that…. Would love it if someone has figured this out, too!

Same here. What is challenging is the fact that I can stream from phone without connection issues. Why can’t Rivian’s much vaunted software team design a working connection after weeks of negative feedback?

I don’t think this is Rivian specific. I’ve had issues with Apple Music buffering in CarPlay in my old Chevy truck. Sometimes it was fine, other times buffered like crazy, even in the same stretch of highway where it worked before. Never tried to find a cause, I just accepted it as that was the way the service work (or didn’t work).

I definitely think it is rivian client specific. Location or cell vs WiFi for me doesn’t matter. And Apple Music works fine on all my other devices. My behavior is just like another mentioned in a separate thread - the live broadcast stations thru Apple Music work fine, but the typical tracks, playlists, stations don’t. It is acting like a corrupted file or expired file…, because it was a sudden onset and won’t correct itself.. I wish I had the option to clear cache / clear data / remove, reinstall… all the things I’d do for apps that aren’t built into my car!

Been having the issue for several weeks, probably since the last update. Tried all the work arounds, including full reset, and nothing has fixed it. In talking with people on the Rivian discord, we did discover that dragging the slider to about 5-10 seconds into the song will "force" it to play, but as soon as you change songs the problem comes back. Impatiently waiting for the next software update which is suppose to fix it.

Have also tried to log out and in of Apple Music multiple times. Issue remains. Contacted Rivian again and their response was quite interesting. A portion of the chat transcript is attached. Paraphrasing I was advised that Apple Music is not stable on Rivian pending release of Apple CarPlay.

Take care to avoid misinterpretation. It doesn’t mean ACP is coming and pending release. It just means there is no ACP and implementation of AM, as a standalone app, comes with challenges. Also bear in mind customer support generalists may not be as savvy as those who actually work in technical positions and may not have the knowledge or information to communicate tech info accurately. At the very peak of their software hierarchy, Wassym has said very bluntly that there will not be ACP in Rivians. That horse has been beaten and reduced to atoms.

And on point implying link between issues with AM and absence of ACP, I call BS. On OSX and iOS platforms, the AM apps are standalone applications… not tied to any other application, other than their respective operating systems. The root of issues with implementing in Rivians is quality of internet connection (which could be network coverage, or hardware/software) and getting the [ported] AM app to play nice in an Android Auto OS environment (which is what Rivian’s infotainment is built on).

Yeah I am not here to argue the point about Car Play integration just sharing what Rivian told me about the issue. I agree BS.

Just to close the loop I was able to get my Apple Music Issue resolved by Rivian Service. The invoice from the service indicates that they replaced a multi function control module and did a firmware update to resolve. Hope this helps others

Curious how this has been going? No issues since the service?

Mine is driving me nuts with buffering. Works flawless when connected to wifi though.
