Lock/unlock, check this status, check that status, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. If it doesn’t allow a person to actually drive the vehicle, it’s not a WaaK. Until that comes to pass, I’m okay with my fob and my cellular Apple Watch. Having the phone is optional.

Um, there’s already a watch app for gen 1 Waak. I think it’s $2 month subscription but saved my ass a few times.

Or you waiting for official app?

I don’t know what app you are referring to. I know there is a non-Rivian one in development, but….

WaaK was very high on my wish list early on. Now, not so much. I am quite satisfied with my current setup and have way more subscriptions than I need, but thanks. If Rivian does ever come out with a true, seamless Waak, that works totally independently of the phone, that may be a bonus. Unfortunately, the auto locking feature, as it currently stands, can be a bit hit and miss. There are times when my rig just doesn’t lock as I walk away. I, then, have to manually lock it with my fob. Other times, it locks almost instantly. Always listening for that owl 😊

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I think the Garmin watch is more aligned with the fitness and adventure themes of Rivian than the Apple watch where even the Ultra is a bit of a toy vs Garmin.

Garmin has bluetooth, payment methods. Maybe it would be possible?

maybe so. But market impact on Apple Watch vs garmin has got to be like at least 10x.

Perhaps but perhaps not for Rivian. Just a thought really, and why not both if it can be done?

Look up Garmin’s market share %. If you were a developer, no personal attachments, would you spend time developing for it?

I am a developer but no, I wouldn't do it for either. Rivian's market share itself would kill it, forget about Garmin.

Even on the Tesla the apple watch support is more of a gimmick than a real value.

Then you knew why Rivian wouldn’t develop for it.

But not why they're wasting their time on the Apple watch flavor.
My God man. Garmin watch market share is minuscule compared to Apple Watch. If you’re a developer, why wouldn’t you get after slice with bigger and biggest user base?

You're missing the point. Doing this for Rivian (forget Apple/Garmin) at all is a waste.

Like first make it so I can open my garage doors when i'm in reverse and all sorts of other basic software things for driver quality of life. Dont waste the time on gimmicks.

It is you who is missing the point. 43% vs just 7% of the market. Waste of time for Wassym’s department to dwell on that 7% just because you happen to have one. Be his BFF, then you might get your wish.

I don’t know what app you are referring to.
There's an existing third-party Apple Watch app that does this.

Garmin vs Apple...LOL! The effort to develop for Apple is so much better than Android and pretty much any others. Also Garmin imposes severe limitations that mean this likely cannot be done at all. You know WHY the Garmin boasts a long battery time (which is useless for most people)? It severely limits activity and communications. The Apple Watch is for all day usage and connectivity, the Garmin isn't.

I looked the last time this came up on this forum, Apple was selling well over 10x over Garmin. I wouldn't use the Garmin if it were free (and it is for me, as a dev).

Im assuming you've never used a Garmin, but that experience isn't correct. The garmin is connected, gives you messages, etc. I dont do phone calls on it, never did on the apple watch. And I cant open my Tesla but that experience sucked. I switched from apple watch at the 7th Gen (I had all the prior versions) and have zero regrets. Battery life was #1, but then also the lack of any real fitness capabilities too, and they arent rugged. They tried to fix it with the Ultra but didnt go far enough.

Definitely agree developing for the Apple Watch is easier, its just a waste of time for an edge case.

But third parties (some already and some coming soon) are already making apple watch connectors. Why bother wasting time on it? Useless features where devs could be doing better things.
