At What Point Will a Rivian Become a 2023 Model Year?

That is a fair question. I purchased my 2014 Jeep in fall 2013, looking up the values in KBB there is a 3k difference in price.

There's no way to know for sure. They can theoretically build 2022 models through December 31. In all likelihood they will switch years in November or December.

When calendar turns to 2023, if its anything like Tesla. All Tesla vehicles carry the date of mfg to determine what year vehicles are.

Since minor changes are made often and throughout the year, they do not distinguish model year vs made year. Changes are implemented as makes sense to do so rather than model year change. Given how similar Rivian is to Tesla in terms of approach overall, I suspect it will be the same or very similar.

The engineer I spoke to at the Denver event seemed to think it was somewhat arbitrary and they’ll do it like Tesla.

I wonder if such difference exists for Tesla vehicles since a late MY in one year may be identical to an early MY in the following year.
