So you’ve walked up to your Rivian and had to wait too long for the mobile key unlock sequence.

To trigger an instant communication, press any exterior button:
- gear tunnel
- hood button
- etc

Yeah, I’ve tried that. It doesn’t work. If my door isn’t unlocking, the gear tunnel isn’t responding either.

I *have* come to the conclusion that it might mostly be my iPhone to blame though. When I used the key fob for passive unlock when I had a loaner, it worked far better.

Noticed this last week while needing something out of gear tunnel. Could have been a coincidence on timing though

I don't have any issues with proximity locking of the doors, but I think it's pretty cool the founder of August Smart Locks is a fellow Rivian owner. I have several of your fine products.

I acknowledge I'm being a jerk...but is it instant if I have to walk around the car?

It's also pretty instant if I pull the phone out, unlock it, open the app and hit the lock icon....

(9/10 times I just have to pull out the phone and unlock it for it to communicate)

I find that the PAAK only ever fails me when I have both hands full of stuff and my phone is in my back pocket!

However, if take the side exit out the house (10ft away from the car) to go somewhere on foot, the car opens every time!

My guess is most issues with proximity unlocking is the phone. I had issues with our Tesla awhile ago and learned it was the battery saver option that turned off the functionality. I always make sure that my phone isn’t doing that to my Rivian key and I haven’t had any issues.

I usually feel through my pocket and press a side button on my phone to turn the screen on and that gets me success.

I find myself having equal issue the other way thou. When I exit my Rivian and walk away from the hotspot, by time I am at my front door my phone is trying to stretch out the hotspot signal, hasnt switched to home wifi and I find myself waiting at my door for my August to unlock. Any tricks for that PAAK? ?

Ps love the product! Haven't used an actual kwikset key in years!

? That’s a feature, not a bug, right?

I find the quickest way is to just leave the truck unlocked.

Nah...I would argue based on personal experience that the best hack is to just use the FOB.
Since about 2 updates back when they "improved FOB functionally," it's actually gotten slower and worse. I have to hit the unlock button a ton or wait like 10 seconds for it to wake up and unlock. Shouldn't locking/unlocking be a passive thing that's always on and not tied to the startup sequence?

So this entire process has been extremely frustrating at home and away. I started with PaaK for both of us, but it drives me nuts when I head out the front door to pee the dog, take something to trash / recycle, etc. So I turned off my PaaK and then...when my wife and I leave together, it sees her and adjusts the car to her even though I'm driving (I can't even get in it's so tight).

So I went back to the fob (assigned to me) and...damn, it still picks her. The fob buttons were pretty poor performing as well. So I assigned the fob to her, reassigned back to me...and dang, proximity for the fob recognizes me and works as expected.

I had an issue last month where the OTA update failed, they had to rebuild the firmware in one of the modules. And in theory everything worked when I picked it up. But the fob...I dunno, maybe it wasn't actually working properly?

I'll post more as I observe more.

Mine also worked fine until a couple of updates ago. Now I often have to just wake the screen on my phone for it to unlock. I assume the retracted door handles don’t have any sort of touch sensor?

@NapaJason - love your product and own 6 of your locks. Now I just need a smart lock that works on sliding glass doors.
