I just received notice to update my R1S so I have not yet experienced the camera...does sound like a good safety feature and interested to check it out. That said, currently on the drivers screen I am shown cars in front of me and in front off to the side... I can clearly see that on my own, but what is not always easily seen is the cars just behind the front windows (and yes I agree if mirrors are set right you can see cars there)...for me, It would be great to show those vehicles that are alongside and just behind you on the display rather than having the vehicle disappear from the screen as soon as they are alongside you and just showing a yellow ) on the display .

As the original OP I think that you'll really like this functionality. I just completed my 2nd 200-mile drive with the blind spot feature and, since most of it was on multi-lane highways, I really liked it. I consciously made an effort to do my "normal" checks (outside mirror, over my shoulder) before turning on my directional and then confirmed it was still clear with the blind spot camera. I'm all for added information and safety. It did also remind me to turn off my directional today when I was exiting the highway onto a long right loop where the steering wheel didn't go left enough to turn it off automatically.

Most of my driving is local...Living in Amish country I'm hyper-aware of buggies and bicycles so I really don't need it much here, but I'll probably just leave it on all the time anyway.

We've had the update with the blind spot video appearing when you use your directional for a couple of days now. I've never had anything more than a yellow light in my outside mirrors before and I really like this update. What I don't like about it is seeing the video when I'm driving around town on roads without multiple lanes - I find it distracting.

Do any of the other manufacturers who offer this give you the option to only use it on multi-lane roads (where you are likely to have someone in your blind spot)? For me that would be ideal - I'm sure the car knows when I'm on a multi-lane highway. I don't need to see the video when I'm turning out of my alley onto the 2-lane road or for most of my intown driving.
Just got the update and was very eager to try the blind spot camera view. It seems too dim to me. Or maybe I'm too dim. Is there any way to brighten it up? I thought it might be dusty cameras, but I got the car washed and it still seems too dark.

No, our KIA and Tesla do this all the time regardless. It's annoying in the Tesla at stoplights where you're waiting to take a left and can't see the map for directions.
The Tesla blind spot window can be moved while active. You can simply slide it over or up out of the way.

Is your screen generally dim? I thought the brightness on my screen when the blind spot view appeared was pretty good. Try making it brighter:

You should be able to test it in your driveway by just putting it in gear and turning on a directional.

yep. And then it’s in the way of something else or it’s in the wrong place when you need it.

It was an afterthought for both Tesla and Rivian and both have only so much screen real estate. It is what it is, take it or not.

OP with an update...

Thank you to all of you who said that I'd get used to the blind spot cameras pretty quickly - as you knew I would, I have. I now only look at them when I'm on the highway and have a lane next to me or when I want a double-check to confirm what I'm seeing when I look around.

Oh - And I've found them REALLY helpful for when I've left the directional on or the turn that I went around wasn't sharp enough to have them automatically turn off. The "But..." is resolved!
