It is new, but it takes some getting used to. I find it like an added safety chech when I switch lanes. With the size and height of the vehicle I’m not sure. I’m seeing everything with just a head turn. If you don’t like it I believe you can turn it off in settings. That said, I would agree with someone who posted above then in smaller roads and driving, it may be even more valuable.

I wish the video could be a little brighter. Mine seems dark on cloudy days. Could be the Gen 1 cameras. Better on Gen 2?

Do any of the other manufacturers who offer this give you the option to only use it on multi-lane roads (where you are likely to have someone in your blind spot)? For me that would be ideal - I'm sure the car knows when I'm on a multi-lane highway. I don't need to see the video when I'm turning out of my alley onto the 2-lane road or for most of my intown driving.
No, our KIA and Tesla do this all the time regardless. It's annoying in the Tesla at stoplights where you're waiting to take a left and can't see the map for directions.

Thanks for the replies - I do love the functionality and, as mentioned above, it is a great indicator to remind me when I've turned on the directional instead of simply tapping it when I change lanes. As I've become less young I'm afraid I don't hear the directional sound as well.

Another great update and my Rivian will continue to improve my driving!

I got used to having it on my Model Y, especially useful in town for right turns across bike lanes. My wife’s Odyssey also shows a camera view but just for right turns.

I’m very happy to have it on my R1S - thank you Rivian! If possible I’d like to have the option to move the right one over to the right side of the main screen where it’s much closer to the mirror so easier to check both.

They need to up the exposure on the video feed for day time driving. It's too dark usually for me to see clearly. It's fine at night.
Agree, the quality is barely usable, but the image would benefit from being a bit brighter.

I find it pretty useless, other than knowing my turn signal is on. The sound and me looking are plenty.

Besides, the display is blocked mostly by the steering wheel so I have to active slouch our lean forward to see anything on the video anyone. Completely useless update for me, but I'm glad it's there for people who enjoy it.

I find the biggest benefit is not on multi-lane roads (still have lots of space and time to shoulder check), but specifically in downtown-like areas with single lane roads with a high volume of distractions and poor visibility. Why? Cyclists and other smaller objects. Remember to check your blindspots (or cameras) for cars, trucks, motorcycles, cyclists, pedestrians, scooters, e-bikers, etc. Save a life!

I for one appreciate another view down the side of the car, whether I use it all the time or not. With that said, these threads are exhausting... Everyone begged for sideview turn signal cameras... now that Rivian gave them to the masses... Oliver twist wants some more. I'm dead here....

Can't answer your question but I think you only find it a distraction because it's new. Give yourself a few weeks to adjust.

I just consider it to be a giant turn signal indicator.
Right - now I am less likely to have my wife nag me about turn signal still on!

I discovered a benefit! Because the turn signal sound is so weak and inaudible if you are listening to music, the BS video helps if you forget to turn your signal off!
I had a car a few years ago that had a turn signal sound that increased in volume until you turned it off. It was a great idea that I've never seen since.
