We've had the update with the blind spot video appearing when you use your directional for a couple of days now. I've never had anything more than a yellow light in my outside mirrors before and I really like this update. What I don't like about it is seeing the video when I'm driving around town on roads without multiple lanes - I find it distracting.

Do any of the other manufacturers who offer this give you the option to only use it on multi-lane roads (where you are likely to have someone in your blind spot)? For me that would be ideal - I'm sure the car knows when I'm on a multi-lane highway. I don't need to see the video when I'm turning out of my alley onto the 2-lane road or for most of my intown driving.

Can't answer your question but I think you only find it a distraction because it's new. Give yourself a few weeks to adjust.

I just consider it to be a giant turn signal indicator.

I find the biggest benefit is not on multi-lane roads (still have lots of space and time to shoulder check), but specifically in downtown-like areas with single lane roads with a high volume of distractions and poor visibility. Why? Cyclists and other smaller objects. Remember to check your blindspots (or cameras) for cars, trucks, motorcycles, cyclists, pedestrians, scooters, e-bikers, etc. Save a life!

I've had turn signal cameras for a few years on my Tesla, and I still haven't figured out how to make use of it.

I can almost instantly tell with the side mirrors if the car I see is far enough back to change lanes. With the camera feed I have no idea. It is just "yes/no, am I the only car on the road", and in the city the answer is never "no".

On top of that, because the camera feed is in a different direction than the mirror, I can't see both at the same time. I have to choose one or the other to look at. Since I don't know how to interpret the camera feed I never chose it. It feeds into a never ending loop. I'll never learn how to use the camera feed if I don't look at it, but I can't look at it because doing so means I'm no longer looking at the mirror.

Without displays positioned in a location where I can see both the camera and the mirror at the same time, it feels like it is going to be impossible to ever learn how to use the camera.

If anyone has any tips on how to interpret the turn signal cameras I would love to hear from you. I really like the idea of cameras replacing side mirrors (I'm in love with backup cameras and feel like the center mirror is no longer needed/useful), but the turn signal cameras elude me.

I have experienced this for a couple of days now and I find that if you hold the steering at 9 and 3 or somewhere in between I can see it, but above that, my arm and hand block the view. Still good to have, but I always look over the shoulder to confirm.

Good point. I never thought of it that way.

Green arrows, Turn signals, on the display got improved but I. wish it could’ve gone a bit larger.

I for one appreciate another view down the side of the car, whether I use it all the time or not. With that said, these threads are exhausting... Everyone begged for sideview turn signal cameras... now that Rivian gave them to the masses... Oliver twist wants some more. I'm dead here....

I've driven multiple cars with this feature exactly 0 of them have had the ability to not do it on single lane roads. Pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists lane filtering are the better for it

I still look over my shoulder and check the mirrors and then I glance down at the camera. I don't find it distracting at all after using it for a couple days.

I discovered a benefit! Because the turn signal sound is so weak and inaudible if you are listening to music, the BS video helps if you forget to turn your signal off!

They need to up the exposure on the video feed for day time driving. It's too dark usually for me to see clearly. It's fine at night.
This. It's too dark against a white background. I can't wait for my eyes to adjust as it takes too long. It's been useless for me so far.

Won't that make the white background even more bright?
Try it. The cameras get much brighter. Yes the background does get brighter. Just try it.
