For any Rivian owner that has a Comma or is looking to add a Comma to their vehicle, there is a bounty started for the person(s) that can unlock angle steering for Rivian Comma users. This is something that will take Openpilot to the next level for Rivian users as it should do away with the torque based limitation and potentially the 90deg steering wheel motion. The GoFundMe for the bounty can be found here:

https://www.gofundme.com/f/community-bounty-unlock-anglebased-steering-for-rivian

Bounties are most effective when the $'s grow. The folks working on vehicle specific items focus their efforts based on many criteria, like safety, bug fix, etc - but the fact remains, money talks. So the higher the bounty, the more eyes that will be looking at it.

Might be easiest to get a job at the steering vendor and look through their code base for your answers

Mostly likely the solution will come down to how Driver+ Highway Assist reports its availabilty over the CANbus.

This seems like exactly the thing. Common CAN signals are universal mostly, but ones that are vehicle/oem specific have to be sniffed out and that can be a long arduous process from what I've read. It's not as simple as looking and seeing text - it's all baud based communication and if you don't know how it's assigned. Things like how D+ availability and D+ engagement are something that won't be a universal signal.

Did you watch the video - there is no definitive proof, Rivian SC said as much. It's just default to blame the aftermarket product when you don't know.

Also, it's being worked on by many folks. Not to mention, it's not as common as one might think.

Literally affecting between 1-2% of Rivian Comma users and not even clear how much the Comma may be at fault.

Tarkus just pasted 90k miles & has been using the Comma 3X since March (60k) with "zero" major issues that required SC visits. Yes a few hic-ups that were addressed and fixed. This system is the perfect system for "Hands-free" driving on all Gen 1 Rivians IMO. It even works while towing. I've towed for over 5000 miles now as well.

Time to bring this up again. Many new Rivian comma users out there. We have a couple of devs working on this and expending a bit of time and resources. Be good to keep the motivation alive !!!!
