So I use my R1S as a Mobil office and yesterday it was in the low 90s here so I’m running ac full blast at 66 .. heard a crack but didn’t notice anything until driving. I assumed something hit me when I saw the windshield cracked straight up the center. I searched for an impact and there is none. I was standing on my running bars and looked everywhere then I noticed the entire roof glass was cracked as well…. Has anyone else had this issue ???

My buddies R1T glass cracked and about a week later my R1S cracked. Mine is just at the edge, his extended like yours. I’d be so much happier with a metal roof or carbon panel to fill the glass

Oh man that is a bad glass day.

Using the AC like that shouldn’t have caused it. It’s been mid to upper 90s here all summer and I blast the hell out of my AC. The glass Rivian uses is definitely on the fragile side, though. I had a chip repaired at Safelite earlier this year, and others are on their 3rd or 4th windshield.

The roof glass is even more fragile. I also wish there had been an option without it.

OP-this is a frequent complaint. Do a search and you'll see lots of people with cracked roofs. I wish it wasn't because otherwise the R1 is a great ar.

The glass roof was one of the things that made me think twice about buying the R1. When possible, I always opt for the non sunroof option on my cars. This time, that wasn't an option. I wish it was. Please, keep us posted.

This car’s been an insane adventure since I’ve gotten it. I don’t love cars, but I do love this one.

Sunshade on roof and really good ( expensive ?) carbon fiber UV on windshield
Ok A sunshade shouldn't cause it to crack. The roof may have been misaligned from the factory. I have seen that but it's very odd that your windshield and your roof are cracked both. I'm not sure what would cause that other than an impact, but I absolutely believe you if you say there's no impact.

So I had a Rivian tech come to my house for some smaller issues go over the broken glass and note in his computer that no impact was found. I also took the car to a local auto glass. They also confirmed no impact. I took the car to Rivian to be repaired , tech came out looked it over and roof no impact but windshield had impact.. I said fix the car please .. two days later and lo and behold another Rivian claiming they see impact on roof…. Luckily, I got insurance 250 deductible for everything but Rivian being a total dick about it. Guy calls me and says he’ll send it up the ladder and I might get a one time golden ticket for roof glass?????still love my car

Holy batshit that's an impressive crack.

The R1 vehicles might need a separate thermal management system for the glass roof...

Yikes...that's scary and frustrating, and just shouldn't happen. The glass should be designed to withstand extra hot days while blasting max cold air…and survive super cold days while blasting max heat. I’d expect a safety margin for factors like age-related pitting and road vibrations, and for films and shades that are commonly used these days.

Your first photo caught my eye because of the symmetrical cracks, centered right under the crossbar. I searched the web and many sources say hourglass-shaped cracks are indicative of a pressure-related event.

I have an upright freezer that's super hard to reopen within a minute of closing it…the cooling, shrinking air creates inward pressure that pulls the door inward and holds it shut. I have to "crack" the seal around the door to open it. I wonder if this scientific principle was a contributing factor for your windshield and roof simultaneously cracking. Should we "crack" a window while using Max A/C?

I’m really thinking of my options on trading in my gen1 for new quad max …. Wondering how much I’ll have to eat though… lemon law maybe ??this car has fun but maybe my fangirl vibe has waned and I need to take in account the amount time it’s been at the shop verses how long I’ve owned it 2+ months in and 11 months owned…
