Windshield replacement calibration $971.00 Ouch!!!

Never checked ERIE, I guess I should given the season.

I had Erie for many years to the point that it would have waived first at-fault accident surcharges. Moved out of state and lost it. Surely, it must have some sort of similar glass coverage.

My windshield took a rock recently and I have scheduled a replacement through a certified auto body shop but did not want the calibration outsourced. Dealing directly with AVSC the estimate is 971.00. [Kent Wa]. Does this seem right to y'all?

If this is correct you no longer need to calibrate the windshield camera. The software does it automatically.

We also have a cracked windshield requiring replacement. Safelite repaired the nickle sized chip, but three days later cracks spidered up and down almost 6 inches. Scheduled a Safelite replacement. Safelite called to say they do not do Rivian calibrations. Talked with Rivian service, and they said the auto calibration mentioned above is only while you drive. For a windshield replacement that separates the camera cluster, you must get a Rivian service center calibration. Rivian also said that mobile service cannot do the calibration on 2025 and newer vehicles. Called today Dec 2, and earliest Austin service center apointment available is Dec 30. Got Dec 17 appointment in San Antonio. Cost estimate is $130-$150. Rivian will not file or work with insurance companies.

$2100 for G1 R1S at Burbank SC.

I paid $1000 and SF paid $1100.

Looked at Safelite but there was some hassle about getting OEM windshield and wasn't sold on their ability to calibrate. Went with Rivian since I already had an appointment for an unrelated issue.

The windshield replacement was the only thing the SC was able to get right

To add a data point for Gen1 R1T windsield replacement.

Rivian SC estimate is $2,000.
Rivian certified collision center estimate is $2,700.

Insurance approved both so there will be $0 cost to me. The only hassle is that I will need to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed for work at Rivian SC.

Well worth the tiny increase on my premium for Comprehensive.

$220.00 insurance a year for me for full anything and everything Rivian glass-related replacement coverage with no deductible and totally hassle-free (windshield including tint film and whatever calibration, windows+window film, roof, lights, lightbar + PPF/ceramic coating on all lights).
