Windshield replacement calibration $971.00 Ouch!!!

My windshield took a rock recently and I have scheduled a replacement through a certified auto body shop but did not want the calibration outsourced. Dealing directly with AVSC the estimate is 971.00. [Kent Wa]. Does this seem right to y'all?

Dang, I just replaced a windshield through Rivian and the total, including calibration, was only about $1700. I waited a little longer to have Rivian do it because I had a horrific experience with one of the “Rivian certified” service centers in Oregon during a minor cosmetic repair. My insurance let me pay Rivian and then just cut the check. A glass coverage rider is a must for this truck!

Sound's about right for general eye based car systems. When I had my Subaru impreza my windshield replacement cost was $1900, half of that was calibration for eyesight camera system. Thankfully I had a generous windshield policy.

No, does not seem right.

1. You might not need calibration, only need if the system tells you so.
2. Entire install through Rivian, including calibration, is 2.4 hours at $235/hr. That includes glass removal, cleanup, install, calibrate.

Windshield prices are getting nuts. I was under the impression the calibration was pretty straightforward, too. I also have really good insurance for windshields. I've never paid more than $100. I think I went through 3 windshields on that car.

I just paid $2100 total for R1S Gen 1 windshield replacement and calibration at an authorized collision center I’ve used before and have been happy with. I paid directly and submitted to my insurance company which paid me in full. Much easier than having Safelite do the glass and Rivian the calibration, which was their recommended/preferred approach.

I had Rivian quote me back in June when my windshield took a rock and cracked, back then it was $1790 plus tax. I decided to hold off till fall and now this bill went up to $1900 plus tax, getting it done on Monday.

Plus the turn signal recall and the 12v / battery bracket replacement

Many Rivian SC's are no longer doing windshields unless they have other stuff going on around them. They've been training others for a while so they can get out of having glass replacements tying up service time freeing up the schedule for other repairs.

$220.00 insurance a year for me for full anything and everything Rivian glass-related replacement coverage with no deductible and totally hassle-free (windshield including tint film and whatever calibration, windows+window film, roof, lights, lightbar + PPF/ceramic coating on all lights).

Complete piece of mind for me and my wallet.

No auto glass insurance riders like that here in PA, so my Nationwide policy has OEM replacement parts and $100 comprehensive deductible on the R1T. Policy does include free/no deductible repair too for minor impacts.
