If I’m not mistaken, a bulletproof vest using steel plates have steel that is at least 5mm thick.

If the CT is 3mm thick, I have a hard time believing these “bullets” were at velocity.

But, I’ll be happy to see an idiot try on their own CT
I think 6mm is considered the standard. I had an older Second Chance vest add on plate that helped bring a 2A vest up to be able to stop small rifle rounds. Unfortunately, the fear of getting killed by fragmentation kept a lot of people from using them.

Skipping over the lunacy, do we now know that it’s between 8k-10k lbs Gross vehicle weight?

Seems so. Still very curious where the payloads will land.

In America, this is considered a safety feature.

More Elon ”PT Barnum” Musk showmanship. He says it was a “Tommy Gun” - sounds badass, right? But If it was truly a Tommy Gun, the standard caliber is .45 ACP - which is a comparatively heavy and slow round, and has poor penetration capability. A 9mm round, which is what most street thugs use in their Glizzy, lol, has better penetration capability. So what is the practical value of this demonstration? Nothing but fanboi Koolaid Courtesy of PT Barnum.

^ It seems so.

Also, some are trying to calculate the Curb Weight based on the GVWR-Max Payload/passengers/ETC.. below..

"For further discussion on weights, here is how it compares to the weight of other Tesla's:

  • CyberTruck - Performance - 9,XXX pounds GVWR - 3,500 lbs Payload - Under 6,499 Curb Weight??
  • CyberTruck - Standard - 8,XXX pounds GVWR - 3,500 lbs Payload - Under 5,499 Curb Weight???
  • Model X - 6,250 pounds GVWR - 1,065 lbs Payload - 5,185 Curb Weight*
  • Model S - 5,596 pounds GVWR - 830 lbs Payload - 4,766 Curb Weight*
  • Model Y - Long Range - 5,712 pounds GVWR - 1,157 lbs Payload- 4,555 Curb Weight*
!!! EDIT: Apparently the VIN is GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weigh Rating) which is different from the Curb Weight of the vehicle. This is the maximum allowable total mass of the vehicle. This is calculated as the weight of the vehicle equipped with the heaviest factory selectable options, all passengers, fluids, and cargo. This includes Cargo/Passengers.

* Lots of different information out there on Curb Weights depending on configs, this is the best information I was able to find. Might be slight variances here depending on Model Year and configuration. "

The 9mm would depend on whether or not it was a modern hollow point. You're right 9mm has a much higher velocity than .45ACP. The thing is though hollow points are designed to expand upon impact to dissipate the energy. So it might still be stopped. 9mm ball would go right through no question as would something like an FN five-seven.

I like it. The "bulletproof" aspect. While we pontificate on what caliber it stops or doesn't, the important thing to consider is that it provides more protection than a regular Tesla. I still think the CT is a monstrosity.

You must admit that it’s a great marketing stunt from Tesla. The trucks ultra hard SS skin should laugh at door dings, hail and errant shopping carts.

The rear quarter panel was hit twice and shows the same damage, hence the same gauge SS.

Note that the front fender was not shot at. It’s probably a thinner gauge stainless to allow for a crumple zone during a frontal collision.

I’ll bet that Tesla axed the concepts Armour Glass due to weight and passenger safety concerns.

Here is a pic of the drivers side SS door skin. It looks pretty thick and substantial. My guess is 3mm thickness (roughly 1/8”).

That second bullet is about the curb weight of a model X. That seems optimistically low.
