Here's a post involving two perennial favorites: service centers and camp speakers. Some weeks ago I was having trouble pairing the speaker to my phone. I made an appointment at the nearest service center in Salt Lake, which is 100 miles away. I talked to a tech there in person and he said the speaker was okay and I needed a new phone to be able to pair with the speaker. Yesterday I got my new phone. The speaker was making lots of error noises. I've been through this before; it needed to be charged. I brought it in the house and charged it. That was when I found out the process I was using to pair the phone was wrong. It could be a flaw in the Android phone software. Anyway both my old phone and my new phone can pair with the speaker. This is something the tech should have known. It isn't all bad. I have a nice new phone. I don't think the tech knew I drove 100 miles to get there, but that shouldn't have mattered. Now I think that my speaker isn't charging in the dock in the car. I'm not sure it ever did. Another minor annoyance, but it matters when the service center is 100 miles away.

That brings up a question for camp speaker users: is the connection inside the dock for charging the speaker unreliable and can sometimes prevent it from charging?

I've only used the camp speaker 3 times, but all 3 times it took me like 10 mins to pair. It's a pain in the ass.

I use my camp speaker quite a bit and whenever I start having issues with it, I just run a full reset and it seems to clear those issues up again.

Hold down the Bluetooth pairing button for ~30 seconds (longer than you think you need to) on the back of the speaker and it will completely completely reset

I use my speaker all the time. It usually automatically pairs fine. Once every couple of weeks I unpair and re-pair my phone and the speaker. It would probably connect fine after a minute or two but reestablishing the connection is easy and faster than waiting.

You drove 100 miles for the camp speaker?!? Please say you were having other problems addressed also.

I would get more use out of a slide out drawer (like the R2 has) than the camp speaker. I have other mobile Bluetooth speakers that seem better and easier to operate.

I made this Camp Speaker "cheat sheet" for myself and shared it a while ago on a different thread on this forum, people seemed to find it useful, so here it is again in case it helps you with using the speaker in the future. Good luck!

While driving today I began hearing an intermittent warning chime. there were no indicators on either display. I figured out it was coming from the camp speaker. When I got home I pulled the speaker out and began charging it assuming that might be the reason it was making the annoying noise. Now, in my house while charging, it is still making that damn noise. I tried resetting, first by holding down the action button (did not work) and then by holding down the pairing / reset butting for 30 seconds (did not work). I am about to take the speaker and put it in the trunk of one of my other vehicles so I don't need to hear the noise. Does anyone know how to shut the thing up?

_Follow up_ After resetting the speaker I checked and the charge level (pressing lantern button twice) and it was green / 75%+ but I still had the noise. I tried holding the action button for three seconds again to shut it off and it shut down... finally. Now I am wondering if it is going to resume making the noise once I turn it on again. Are others finding the speaker is not charging in the dock?

Stick it on a shelf in the garage and let the battery run dead. Get a storage drawer or print one.

In the owner's manual, they explain that the speaker must be charged initially from a wall plug in the house:
Rivian R1T R1S Camp speaker pairing and charging problems 1713145044931-7f

After that it's supposed to maintain the charge from the dock in the R1. If you never charged it externally until you got the beeping that may have simply been your issue.

Helpful thread! Got my R1S last August and only now (10 months later) did I finally pull out the camp speaker for the first time to use and I couldn't get it to hold a charge. Charged it via a power brick once and saw it die pretty quickly. Trying to charge via another power brick right now given the prior poster's callout via the instruction manual.

Tried to use mine yesterday for the first time in a while. Couldn't pair. Ended up plugging it into USB-C to charge, and was able to pair first try.

Guess it doesn't charge in the dock.

What's most annoying is me hearing it do it's shutodd/turn on sound in the truck anytime I walk by it at home.
