I searched here and couldn’t find anything for this so I thought I‘d create a new post. If this was discussed somewhere and I missed it please post a link and I’ll ask to have this thread closed.
Maybe I never noticed this before but when viewing Wi-Fi networks on an iPhone, Rivian Camp Speaker showed up below the list of Wi-Fi networks. I thought this was odd since I’ve never heard of the Camp Speaker as being anything other than Bluetooth. Also, I don’t recall seeing a device below the list of Wi-Fi networks on an iOS device before.
So I tapped on the Rivian Camp Speaker and I was presented with this:
Maybe this was always possible and I never noticed it. Maybe it is the result of an iOS update or of an undocumented Camp Speaker update. It would be interesting if someone on 2023.30 or earlier could test and see if the Camp Speaker advertises itself on iOS Settings > Wi-Fi.
Anyway, of COURSE I tapped Next. This popped up for maybe 10 seconds.
I expected it to fail, but instead I got this:
Okay. So that seems like progress. I’ve gotten this far so how could I NOT tap on Find App for Accessory?
So, does this mean there will be a new app coming? Maybe Rivian will add some functionality to the Rivian app. I checked to see if something new was available in the app with phone & Camp Speaker supposedly on same Wi-Fi and there was nothing new that I could see.
I assume that a Wi-Fi connection could allow for a longer range connection with phones and other devices. Maybe there will be additional controls from connected devices? Finally, I seem to recall that Rivian referred to playing vehicle audio on the Camp Speaker a long time ago. I think we all assumed this would be via Bluetooth, but maybe the speaker has to connect to the vehicle‘s Wi-Fi instead?
Edit:typo
