I have a 1st Gen R1S and I LOVE it... I have a voucher for 20% off my next one from an early reservation... and while I love the All Terrain package, the one thing I really want in a Gen 2 is the 410 mile range (or at least the longer range). I spend 90% of my time on roads and don't need the offroad tread or reduced range (or added road noise I've heard of).

My basic question is: Can I put better range road tires on the rims that come with the All Terrain package? If so, then how do I adjust the range estimator?

Thank you all.

Sort of....

You can go straight up non-OEM with the general grabber or the pirelli AS. Or you can do Rivian's Goodyear AS option (still officially an AT). But the latter doesn't claim to get all your range back if you do the math on how it affects the standard battery models. It's close, 395 or something.

So I can get the Pirelli road tires (410 range) on the rims that come with the All Terrain package?

If your gen1 is a quad-large you won’t ever get to 410 mi. To get the most range, and keep 20” wheels, pick an efficient all-season pavement oriented tire (with appropriate load and speed rating), downsize to 275/60R20. Pay Service to reprogram to factory 21” spec, or keep in mind the 3.2% difference in overall tire diameter (and what that means to speedo, odometer and displayed range).

21" road wheels and tires here... I'd Love to swap for A/T, but I think you're about 1000 miles too far away from me.

I have the noisy Pirelli AS 20s as well. If I had to change, I'd either go with the Goodyear Tire designed for Rivian, or the new Michelin M/S 2 and then have Rivian reprogram my truck.

There is a rumor that Rivian will allow us to change tire/wheel sizes coming s00n in a SW update.

☝ This

Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 comes in this size and is 116 load index. I have been running Pirelli AS+3 with 115 for 15k+ miles across stock 20" wheel and a Ram 2363 wheel, no issues yet ✊?

To add... You will find some tire options to be heavier than stock. If your driving is mostly highway cruising (steady speed), the added weight won't affect efficiency significantly. If your driving is mostly stop-and-go (wide fluctuations in speed), then the weight is a greater factor.

Only way to get anywhere near 410 mi max range is with a Max Pack.

I went with the 275 60 R20 option from my 21's and what a major improvement in ride quality. range is about = but did not pass the 500 miles break in.

Wow, all great info.

To clarify, I’m SHOPing for a Performance Max Pack. I currently have a Quad R1S with the under armor, which I like, but I want to make sure I have the longest range possible.

Seems like my best bet is to find one with All Terrain package and then swap out the tires but keep the 20” rims..?

any additional thoughts?

If you're shopping for a new one and "don't need the off-road tread", why not just get one with the 22" range wheels that is rated for 410 miles out of the gate? Doesn't seem like all the gyrations around swapping wheels and tires really gets you anywhere.

If you're shopping for gen 2 and want max range, Dual Motor (performance or not) + Max Pack + 22" Range wheel/tire option (the one with the aero discs). Getting the off-road package to swap tires is not cost effective nor will it get you to 410 mi.. Off-road package adds under body armor which is about 150 lbs, plus cost of set of AS tires and installation, plus cost and time of reprogramming. K.I.S.S. and just buy the factory config with the max range you desire.

Hi @Jared2, the Goodyear tire designed for Rivian seems like a great match for your needs. I’ve been pleased with the efficiency numbers on this tire. It offers a good balance of All-Season and All-Terrain capabilities. You can find more information on this tire here. ...

I second that because it's just a simple order process without the hassle of getting a totally separate set up and having to dispose of the other ones. I have 20AT on my R1S and plan to get these when the time comes.
