Just had the local service center call and change my in-person visit to a mobile one. The person on the phone claimed they can mount and balance my new snow tires via mobile service. Does anyone have experience with this? I’m surprised they can fit that equipment in the van.

I have not had them do it but I know the mobile vans can do that. This is from fellow Coloradoan @DTown3011 within the last few days

They can certainly do it. But would they do it for non-oem tires? What are you having mounted?

They also charge more than the equivalent from say TireRack mobile installers.

I’m constantly surprised that so many people use “dealers” for tires. Maybe that’s a me thing?

Thank you!

I'm having them put a new set of snow tires on new 20" dark AT wheels. I told them that's what I'd be doing and they didn't seem to have a problem with it. Maybe I'll have a bribe ready for the tech...

I bought the tires myself from elsewhere, but I want the Rivian wheels. Labor is $180 which I'm fine with.

I highly recommend you go find an independent shop that has a RoadForce balancer, especially for winter/snow tires. You'll probably pay the same (or less) going to an independent shop.

You will also need as set of jack pucks if going to an independent shop.

If they say they can, they can and have the van/equipment to do it. Not all SCs have the vans to offer it.

A service appointment was required to purchase wheels. There’s nothing explicit in my work order about mounting/balancing new tires despite my many efforts to get that in writing from the support team. Hence my double checking they can actually do the work required via mobile van and I won’t be stuck waiting another month to get my snow tires.

Yes, they can do it. I just talked to the service tech the other day. I’m not really sure about aftermarket tires but I think it’s fine. You’ll just have to check. He mentioned they used to charge $60 for tire rotations as well.

Looks like they can do it. But I always prefer to take it into a shop because I feel like the stationary machines can do a better job with balancing. Those mobile balancing machines I feel are designed to get it close enough and are certainly excellent if you have a flat or need a tire replacement due to a failure. This is all my opinion.
