Why do folks like you continue to be apologists for not getting what you actually should have had for the money you spent? Either you are Rivian employees in disguise, or you are so brainwashed you actually don’t realize what you can actually get for the same amount of money!!
Your are entitled to your own opinion. and the R1 is not for you. I'm fine with that. But this attacking comment above illustrates that you fundamentally don't understand, or perhaps just don't want to acknowledge, the difference in the vehicles and where the value is.... where the $$$ in the vehicle are. Can you recognize that a price comparison without acknowledging the fundamental cost and technology differences between ICE and BEV is comparing apples and oranges? A loaded F350 costs more than the X7 or the R1. Price is not an indicator of luxury, comfort, etc. Or do you believe the F350 should ride better and have more luxury than the X7 due to the price?

I spent my money for a BEV 835 hp, 15" ground clearance, 7 row vehicle, and got more than I expected for the money. So instead of attacking, help us by pointing us to a BEV 800+ hp, 15" ground clearance, 7 row vehicle that illustrates your claim "you actually don’t realize what you can actually get for the same amount of money!!"

It certainly possible that “your suck is my great””. It’s also possible that you were in a Lemon of a Rivian. All of that being said, I’ve driven and owned many cars, and so have a pretty wide range of driving experiences over many years. I won’t say the Rivian is the best driving car I’ve ever been in, but it drives much better than just about anything and its size class and many smaller cars as well. Extremely smooth riding.
What tires do you have? I’m considering 20’s but don’t want to lose the range

Rivian touts this suspension derived from F1 technology and 0 to 60 times of three seconds and yet at the end of the day the actual track handling isn’t that great on paper as measured by respected publications such as car and driver.
What was BMW's XM time up pikes peak this year by the way?

I personally have no issues with the OPs constructive comments in his original review in comparing the BMW and RR that he is used to and the R1S. Comments about the “young kid”, the R1S being an early 30s “nice car”, and the missing features that were never indicated by Rivian (rear window shades, massaging seats, sliding sunroof, etc) don’t really add any meaningful content. I get it, everyone has their own wants/needs and what may be important to one person may not matter to another, but if there are certain things that are must haves it’s your responsibility to do your research. It’s kind of crazy to knock something for a feature that was never mentioned. Granted the OP said they were willing to overlook some of it, but still.

The biggest issue I see with the OPs test drive is that it sounds like the R1S he was driving didn’t have the latest update. I have a R1T, but from what it sounds like the ride quality of the R1S was drastically improved with the update. Rivian should be making sure the their test drive vehicles have the latest updates.

For me, Rivian has been great and there is currently nothing out there that compares to the R1T (for me).

Btw, there was a dude here with a skull emoji who said some truly offensive things. I can’t find that post anymore, he probably deleted it like the coward that he/she is, but just in case they are still lurking here:?
As far as I know... I am the only person on this forum with a "skull emoji"... And how you take offense to my post that, for lack of a better term, defended your position... Would love to hear the explanation for this one..
I hate to say it, but the OP is actually correct.. for different reasons.

One thing Tesla and Rivian are doing, that I dont agree with... These are the vehicles, these are your extremely limited options, take it or leave it. Pick a color (exterior), pick another color (interior), and pick a rim. In the grand scheme of things, this is all you can really pick from.

But I can see why Rivian did do this, as a new company, lets them keep the tooling limited, to try to become profitable. Maybe they will offer it down the road.... But likely not if they follow in Tesla's footsteps... Which they have already shown they will.

Tesla at this point, has no excuse.

There are options on all Rivians we dont need/want. There are options on all Rivians that we wish we could get, especially from the manufacture.

I could do without: Glass roof
I could do with: HUD, Better seats, AA/ACP, a spare tire (without paying more for it)

But as I said, with Rivian standardizing what is in their vehicle, they minimize the exposure.

But they also limit some potential customers like the OP that is looking for something a bit more upscale.

Edit: Is the Rivian comparable to a BMW X7? No! Is the Rivian comparable to a LR? No!

I'm certainly glad that RIVIAN doesn't have to lose $30K to this piece of sh!t. I bet if he had pre-ordered it a few months earlier he would have written a much nicer review.

I love your post and your positivity, but if you had my experience I guarantee you would be worried for the state of the company.
I am not in Kansas, I am in Silicon Valley. If anyone should care about their customer experience in a place like this, it should be Rivian, however they clearly do not!
I understand your frustration and how you feel. I would feel the same if I had been through what you have. I came from Tesla to Rivian. I bought a Tesla when people were asking whether the company would survive. I took a chance because I believed in the product, and 6 years later, I can say it paid off. Tesla was HORRIBLE regarding customer support and dealing with them on repairs initially. Parts were in short supply, places to get repairs were few and far between, and technicians were scarce. Fast-forward 6 years, and this is the same thing that some of us are experiencing with Rivian. When I bought my R1S, I accepted that I would be a beta tester. We all should expect that being owners of the first of under 50k cars that they've churned out in 2 years. If we run into issues, we are stuck having to be patient. It's part of the life of an early adopter. The R1S is designed well, has a great ride (when it works), comes with a promising software package (that, of course, needs work), and has a great corporate philosophy. Thanks to all of us early adopters who have been willing to suffer through the bumps in the road (no pun intended), I believe Rivian will have a bright future, and they will, within the next 24 months, be giving us all much better service experiences and get many of the kinks out of their cars and their system. Time will tell, but I remain hopeful.
