I had a good experience with the buying process. I mean depends on your expectations. They gave a very low quote for my Mach e trade in so that pissed me off and I keep them hanging for a while to look for better price. Then they harassed me for a while to set a delivery date. And finally they wanted all paperwork done to a T with strict deadlines and then threatened to cancel delivery date if check not uploaded before 3pm the day before. But I understand this is all needed for a smooth delivery and was in their to complete tasks in the checklist for delivery

The FACTS:

August 2023 - Deposit

October 2023 - Confirmed Configuration. $95k MSRP

November 2023 - advised vehicle would deliver mid-November

End of November - Installed 50 AMP JuiceBox in my garage

December 1-7, 2023 - Crickets/No word from Adventure Guide(s)

Mid-December- Vehicle enroute to Las Vegas SC, submitted trade-in (Range Rover Sport Dynamic SC) information (Registration, PayOff, Etc)… supposed to take 24-48 hrs to process.

4 Days later - Crickets, unable to proceed w/ financial process until trade-in confirmed

5 days later - Insurance returned because effective policy date was post-dated (duh). Guide called me, had questions about trade-in. SC contacts me pressuring to schedule delivery, however, advised financial process hasn’t started. Delivery set for following Monday (in 2 business days).

6 days later - Financials submitted, trade-in accounted -$14K. Rivian offered 8.09% APR. My credit union was slow to respond.

That same week, work life hectic, had to deal with multiple horrific events (I’m a First Responder). I emailed Rivian, advised I don’t have the time or capacity to jump through all those hoops in two days.

Ended up letting go of the R1S and took home a beautiful 2024 Q8 e-Tron in just a matter of hours. Audi took good care of me, gave me $12.5k incentive, almost 0% APR on a lease. Not my first choice, I’m deeply disappointed and still want the R1S. But I refuse to pay that much nor get strung along. Rivian needs to start leasing. I see my local SC is now overstocked with R1T’s and R1S’s.

We’ll see how the climate looks in 3 years from now.

Mmm, I thought Rivian has started leasing….

I don't blame you for being frustrated....but as a former owner of many Audis (A8, Q7, A3, Avante 4.2) I will never own another. Nice cars...WORST company to deal with. Incompetent corporate support, avoidance of legitimate warranty matters. Rivian has been wonderful through my ownership experience....Audi could learn from them.

Beyond delivery smoothness, at the end of the day/week it came down to numbers. And 8.09% APR with good credit shows how bad the market is getting.

On the lease/financing with Audi, all I was trying to convey is I got a sensible deal (for my situation). Within the 3 yrs I can do whatever I choose; buyout the lease, lease end buyout, or walk away. Everyone has their own take and I respect that.
Rivian definitely has tons of bugs to work out in its delivery process - in fact in just about every process. It can definitely be aggravating dealing with them at times, but the price, for me at least, has been worth it. I love my R1S and I know that I’m basically a beta tester of all Rivian processes. Anyone getting in at this time has to accept that there will be bumps in the road (no pun intended) or the Rivian is not for them. I went in with my eyes open and am keeping them open.. I hope you love your new Audi.

It’s disgusting to see some of the people response in this forum. Always easy to criticize from the keyboard. OP wasn’t even bashing the brand, and still hope to get R1S in the future.

what he is doing is just pointing out the problem with the process. I’m having problem with it as well. Asked me to pay or lose my scheduled spot. After paying and then say vehicle is in transit and needs to be delayed. That’s just wrong practice. I’m fine with the delay, but are there many people paying in full (no finances and no trade-in)?? I can see it will be stressful process for many people.

Also, for those leaving nasty replies, I wish when u need first responders service, and the person tells u to wait because they need to pick up a Rivian, so go save yourself.

OP, thank you for your service and I appreciate your dedication to your community!!

So much for the Love and Joy of the season. ? 5y 48d waiting, and can agree RVN Comms suck, the units do not communicate with each other—CS admits they do not know production plans or delivery intentions, the feeling of being strung along is real. Cheerleaders at the top (CEO, CFO, COO, Comms etc) do not seem to know the duck’s feet are paddling furiously to keep moving against the current. Guides are either swamped or know they have a captive audience, benefit of the doubt for the former, but then leadership should step in and fix/bolster rather than opening million dollar+ show off places. Yes the vehicle is (someday I’ll know) wonderful, but it’s the experience. Friend gave up and went with what he remembered as great buying experience @Lexus. The diehard waiters like me are being replaced by the buy now crowd and RVNā€˜s luster and reputation are on the line.

I also was close to walking away (different circumstances of course) but stuck it out and am glad I did. Good luck with the Audi and maybe let us know how it performs - I’ve read it is the worst ā€˜watt’ guzzler in that class - with R1S 2nd worst!

Sorry bud. Rivian is struggling to keep up with deliveries and staff appropriately. Communication is awful. Tesla was the same in the first 3 years. Enjoy the Audi.

Yes. 5 years is a long time. Are you in an area where they don’t have a service center close by? There should be a reason. There is no benefit for Rivian to choose somebody over you. I know there are lot of folks after you, who hav written theirs; including me ?

It is always easier to take one specific case and say how bad it us with any company; but is it an exception or a norm. I think it is an exception based on my interaction with other Rivian owners.
