Nice video and impressed by the response time (where the carplay kicks in...) - Would've been nice to see how a phone call is handled (incoming/outgoing) - Would be nice to hear it go through the rivian audio

it will sound exactly how it does without our screen (since the call is going directly from phone - bluetooth to - Rivian)

OK - is that the same if I dial out or accept a call using the carplay? So if I use the phone app on carplay and dial out or accept a call, will it still connect through the rivian audio? If so that is great!! I am used to using carplay/AA on rentals where the unit is factory and therefore all audio/mic is using the base unit

yes. You can use the integrated speaker on our Smart Screen, but I wouldn't. Really no reason too...The Rivian Audio is far superior...use it! This is why we set our unit to use the Rivian Audio.

Gang - we have posted install instructions and videos - you can reach them from the product page here: https://evsportline.com/collections...-carplay-smart-dash-screen-for-rivian-r1t-r1s

or instructions page here: https://evsportline.com/blogs/news/...ay-android-auto-smart-dash-screen-by-team-1ev

Pretty impressive. I may not be an early adopter but the instructions video is well thought through and the finished product looks really good on your video. Also, installation appears straight forward. Might have to get one as my wife is slow to get on board driving the Rivian as her main vehicle, which was the point we got it to start with. The reason is she often takes calls and manages the family and other duties while driving, which is easier in any of our other cars with carplay

One more question to @EV Sportline - does this unit have a dashcam in the back? I don't think I saw that in the video - I notice similar (or the same manufacturer Lamtto?) having a unit that looks the same but has a dashcam in the back....I know there is gearguard so maybe it doesn't help but seems like a handy feature to have.

No camera - for the the reason you mentioned, Gear Guard is already there. We didn't want to bloat with extra stuff most dont use, that slows down the processor.

@jebinc - As you do your review can you please include how easy it is to remove and replace? For now (until my wife comes around), my plan is to mount it only when we're taking longer trips. Since 80% of our driving is local (and Lancaster PA doesn't really have traffic jams), we only use CP when leaving town. Thanks and I'm looking forward to your report!
Will do.

All:

After some thought, I decided to break my, "Master Thread: JEBINC’s installation tips and review of 1EV/EV Sportline CarPlay / Android Auto display kit” up into two installments - so you are not waiting a week for information! This first installment will cover “initial thoughts” about the kit and installation tips. The second will focus on the kit’s performance and useability. Since I need to get familiar with everything, “Part 2” will likely be a few days, to a week, in the making.

Part I may post this evening or tomorrow. "Stay tuned," as they used to say in the 1980's....

After watching the installation video, I'm a little concerned that it's going to warp the dash pad over time.

Rivian R1T R1S CarPlay & Android Auto Smart Dash Screen has arrived! New from EVSportline.com Screenshot 2023-12-14 132255

I doubt I'll keep the screen forever so I don't want a weird gap under the pad once I take it out. On a positive not, the unit appears to be a rebadged Carflix/Lamtto display which seem to have pretty good reviews. Those only run about $90-$100 but don't include the wiring or custom mount.

Yes, I have had it installed on / off for about 5 months now during development. One day in the Atlanta sun, and it's flat as a pancake again :) And we've been in and out so much, for testing, I am fairly impressed we never broke or damaged the dash! Nice job team Rivian! The dash is tough.
