I washed my car for the first time yesterday. I turned on the carwash mode and it sure enough all door handles went in flat. After wash was done I tried to open the door and the door handle wouldn't pop out. My bag which had the keyfob, phone and card was inside the car so I couldn't do anything. I had to call my wife who was working at that time using the landline phone and asked her to use the Rivian app to open the door for me. I guess I need to make sure I have at least the phone or keyfob with me all the time when I am doing the carwash from now on.
Familiarize yourself with your new $90k vehicle. This same issue is all over the various forums and groups.
1. Make sure to keep a fob, card or phone key on you, that’s just common sense.
2. You were not locked out. The auto present handles were “off” because car wash mode was active…you just need to manually push them from the other side (as stated many times in various forums and the owners manual).

The fact it is all over various forums and groups says it could have been executed better.

I'm sorry but does Rivian need to hold the hands of full grown adults?

It's really clearly stated in the manual which you can access anywhere...

Nope....but if it was well executed...it wouldn't need a manual to operate. Simple fact. Nothing about holding hands...adults or children. Well designed elements of a vehicle or many things really....work without training or manual reading.

For example.....the handle works great...but when you engage carwash mode....an alert should pop up on a screen that shows a infographic of how the handle works in car wash mode.

You got me! Improving the user experience is often "hand holding".

But the fact many are experiencing this non-intuitive behavior of the door handles in the car wash mode...is a solid case to "hold their hand" and throw up an info graphic how to re-open the doors when in car wash mode.
