Change from Explore to Adventure?

Would you change your current Explore package to Adventure if it meant receiving your Rivian in 2022

Curious of what current Explore package reservation holders think about RJ's comment about changing to Adventure package to move up your delivery to next year vs 2023... This obviously only applies to 2018/19 orders since those are the ones he referenced. Unfortunately changing my own order from an Explore package would do nothing as I'm a 10/21 order.

I am a 21 reservation holder and I doubt it would make a difference but I wouldn’t do it anyway for a a few reasons:
  • I don’t like to be manipulated
  • First half of 23 is the same as 2nd half of 22 to me. I don’t expect to do as much in winter with my R1S.
  • One year wait will give Rivian time to iron out some kinks and show me what it is I am buying.
  • More info will be out about other options and car market may improve (I am not holding my breath)
But I would not be a happy camper if they miss my window or they start taking other things away from Explore and I find out about them in 23. I would be a happy camper if I take delivery of what I expect in Q1 (rather than Q2)

With Omicron raging and with Rivian being new to this ramp up business and their emphasis on quality, I will be surprised if there is no delay on late 22 and 23 windows.

I agree with your points. I even spoke to a guide the other day and asked about a late order changing to Adventure and she said it probably wouldn't do much to delivery timing

From my family's transportation needs stand point, I am fine with waiting until first half of 2023. My only concern is potential negative change to the tax credit/incentive after 2022. If I end up losing out on most of the current credit/incentive, it would then be worth "upgrading" to the adventure trim. Since I am out the money either way, I would rather have an adventure than explore trim to show for it!

We are in a similar situation with an 11/2018 order date and a first half of 2023 delivery date on an R1T Explore Package. We were also considering switching to an Adventure Package, but have decided not to do it as we don't feel that the upgrades included are worth anywhere near the $5,500 higher price. As a matter of fact, we think the wood interior trim is kind of cheesy.

We, too, are concerned about the delayed delivery impacting the tax credit. As the Federal tax credit applies to a new manufacturer's first 200,000 vehicles, I think we will be OK. The law could change for 2023, but I don't really think that will happen. I am somewhat concerned about price increases over the next year being applied to pre-orders. I would hope that Rivian would not do this, as it would penalize some very early orders holders simply because the high-end trim package was not chosen.
