Hi, I’m taking delivery of a 2026 R1T on Tuesday. Pretty excited. I’ve been a Tesla owner for 8 years (M3 ands MY).

I have a Tesla wall charger at my house (48A). My Rivian has a native NACS port so I’m guessing that I’ll be able to charge it from my Tesla wall charger. I searched the forum and didn’t see anything in that specifically.

Has anyone done this and does it work?

Yep, no problem.

While Tesla's Supercharger protocol as originally deployed is different than the protocol used by CCS that "NACS-native" non-Tesla vehicles use (which is why a NACS-native R1T can't charge on older Supercharger stations,) Tesla used the same "communication protocol" as J1772 for AC (home/Destination) charging. It's why Teslas could use J1772 stations with a very small and simple adapter.

The Tesla Wall Unit can charge any EV just fine.

Agreed about the wall charger. Also be aware there's a setting on the Tesla wall charger that restricts it to Tesla-only, so you might have to change that setting so it will work with your Rivian.

But let me add that there is one big gotcha about Tesla superchargers that trips up mainly people who are used to Teslas:

While the old V1 and V2 superchargers will never work for your Rivian because they use a proprietary Tesla protocol, many of the newer V3 and V4 superchargers won't work either. Because Tesla does not allow non-Teslas to use them. There doesn't seem to be much of a pattern to which ones are open and which ones aren't.

This is a problem mainly for Tesla owners, because you have learned assumptions about where and how to charge your Tesla when you take trips. And those assumptions may get you into trouble when you show up and the charger you always used before won't work for your Rivian.

So verify ahead of time that the Tesla supercharger you plan to use is open to Rivians, before you show up with an empty battery.

Agree on the Supercharger notes.

Don't assume *ANY* Supercharger you're used to can be used with the Rivian. Use Rivian navigation to add charge stations. If your favorite Supercharger doesn't show up in Rivian navigation, don't try to charge at it.

(There's one V3 near me that isn't open to non-Tesla yet; while there's a station I knew was *OLD* V2 that I didn't know had been upgraded, and *IS* open to non-Tesla now.)

I charge my 2026 R1S direct every weekday with a Tesla Wall Connector.
Takes a second to release after pushing the button when disconnecting.

I took delivery of a NACS R1S a few weeks ago and initially my Tesla wall charger was not compatible as the default setting was to only be compatible with Teslas. I had never hooked my charger up to Wi-Fi which would allow me to change the settings in the Tesla App, and had long ago thrown away the QuickStart Guide that contained the QR code that would allow me to connect it.

If this happens to you, just turn off the power to the charger., unscrew the 4 screws connecting the charger to the wall, and take the charger off the wall. On the back you’ll find the QR code that you can scan in the app under My Home > Add Product. You’ll then be able to change the settings for your charger to allow vehicles other than Teslas.

Thanks! That's good to know.
