Paying for connectivity seems only fair. What Rivian wants for it in my view is not. If Tesla, my other point of reference, does it for $10 a month...

I too will see how connectivity works using my cell, but if too much of a hassle, will definitely sign up for Rivian service. No matter what the network carrier is, worth keeping in mind that at least in my tri-state area there are expansive connectivity dead zones regardless of carrier.
When I was in Yellowstone the R1S had better coverage than my cell phone, both on AT&T, the vehicle receiver and antenna is more powerful than the iPhone. That was my main reason for paying the subscription price for Connect+.

As for vehicle price, when I placed my reservation I had no clue what the R1S price was going to be. Based on the vehicle specs and how Tesla always offered their highest priced vehicles first I expected the R1S to be well over 100k. I set aside 125k as my upper limit out the door, fortunately I did not have to test how firm my upper limit was. ?. The current prices for the Tri and Quad motor versions is actually closer to what I expected the initial pricing to be.

I actually feel like I stole my R1S at 79k, adjusted for inflation it was 8k less than I paid for a rear wheel drive Model S (MSRP 72,500) in 2016.

Good for you. That's excellent!
Just tried out the Internet access through my cell phone on my R1S. Streamed some Amazon music; cannot tell the difference in quality, and there should be none. Of course, I lose the live view on the cameras, not sure what else. Will see.

I remember seeing prices on the Rivian website when I placed my deposit and after configuring it. I knew what the price would be, and it certainly is less than the updated price. Quite a bit less. Of course, throw in the full XPEL PPF and ceramic coating, and the total cost compared to the new updated price became a wash.

My Teslas have AT&T. Still, there are plenty of dead zones, and quite large areas in northern Montana, ID, even large parts of WA also.

What else might I be missing besides live camera if I do not go Connect+. I know streaming apps, don't care.

Hot spotting does not re-enable satellite maps that disappeared and a few other features that my wife really enjoys....so, I gave-in (quickly) and did the 12-month plan for the R1T and R1S. Back to happy life.....

It is all about supply and demand. Rivian supplies Internet data service, Rivian now demands $150.
Please keep in mind that we early reservation holders AND Rivian both agreed on a set purchase price set by Rivian. As with everything else purchased, Rivian had no choice but to honor that price instead of wanting to rescind its obligation and jack up higher the said set price. Rivian did us no favor, that's how the system works.
Nothing wrong at all with questioning petty charges and feeling nickel-and-dimed. Many out there are very picky and very selective about where to spend money, however gazillions much or little, and on what instead of tacitly accepting every new charge under the sun, however small, as a given. And there are great $ benefits being so :).
That's not what "supply and demand" means. Not sure if you slept in a Holiday Inn Express last night, but you're not an economist.

Rivian did have a choice. They did not (as much as some tried to claim back in '22) have to honor original pricing. You are dead wrong on that one. You can argue about the negative impact of not honoring the original price, but if you think you were owed it... you're not making an intelligent argument.

Why is it that understanding that Rivian shouldn't eat the costs of a data service (and that it was made clear we would pay for it at some point) means that someone would "tacitly [accept] every new charge under the sun, however small, as a given"? Are you such an absolutist that you can't see that people are ok with paying for a service, as originally advertised, if they feel the value is worth the price? You're upset by it, but everyone who isn't is... whatever you want to paint them with that big brush of yours? Look, be upset with it if you want, but at least be intellectually honest about your argument.

Can you explain how to get the "simple routine" to work? Thanks in advance. :please:
On Samsung S24Ultra, not sure about the others, go to Settings, search to Routines. There you can create what works for you based on the triggers like blue tooth connection.

That is exactly what supply and demand means. RIvian supplies something, Rivian demands something.

I need not be an economist to figure that out, and just so you know, Holiday Inn Express is beneath me, owning the three EVs outright parked inside my garage (Rivian R1S one of them) exhibit A.

Don't care if I am dead wrong on anything. Not aymore. Rivian set a price when I configured and put a deposit on my Rivian. Rivian had better honored that price or else. Reason why many folks like me revolted. Rivian backed down. That's how the system works.

Perfectly fine if you want to pay for a service. Nothing wrong with that. It's a free country. I am not. Respect that point of view, please. No, I am not upset at all. I am just not a sucker willing to part with my money willy-nilly. Again, reason why I own the three EVs parked in my garage outright. Just because I raise a point you do not agree with DOES NOT mean I am upset. C'mon, man. Cut us a break.

I complained, like thousands others, about Rivian trying to jack up an AGREED-UPON price. Rivian backed down. As the saying goes, it ought to be illegal to let a sucker keep his/her money. I ain't no sucker. Rivian backed down. So there!
Please learn to respect other's points of view. Thank you.
You sound upset. You still don’t know what supply and demand means in an economic sense. Your “or else” didn’t sway Rivian. If it makes you feel stronger, go on believing that, but no one really cares about you. That’s a good life lesson, write it down. You paying off (allegedly) three cars doesn’t make you smart.

Sorry if it’s the first time hearing that you don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things, but consider it liberating. It’s not your fault. Hey, it’s not your fault. It’s. Not. Your. Fault.
