(sorry if this has been covered already but I couldn't find a relevant post)

For months I've been using my phone hotspot which the truck automatically connects to in order to use TuneIn and Spotify thru the native apps on the main screen.

For avoidance of doubt this was not Bluetooth but phone data and the apps worked flawlessly.

For the first time yesterday, the connect+ message now shows up even if the car is connected to my phone's data.

I can of course still go to the phone app and stream thru Bluetooth but obviously that is suboptimal quality and interface.

This change happened in between OTA updates (although could obviously have been a date specific trigger in the software). Tried a soft reset but same state.

Do we know if Rivian changed their mind on this one? I recall Connect+ used to say it provides "DATA" for the streaming apps (meaning if you bring your own data you can still use). But now it seems to have dropped the data part and just implies you need Connect+ to even use the apps.

I had been surprised they allowed the phone hotspot to work so maybe this is just a reconsidering.

I don't mind paying for Connect+ and will do so if this is anything but a momentary blip/bug.

Thanks for thoughts.

Still works for me. It's likely your phone's data connection is spotty or acting up. Reboot your phone.

Thanks. No, definitely not the phone. I've got two phones and both respond the same. Not near a data limit or anything like that.

Weird. Aftwr 2 days, apps now working in middle of drive with just the phone data which it was always connected to. So good on that.

However, the entire interface froze for a good 10 seconds (unique behavior for my truck) The connect+ prompt then went away but logins and recent history info wiped from the apps. Last update was installed weeks ago.

Now everything is nominal. So definitely a gremlin in the software.

Interesting.

Network connectivity is likely something that could need a hard reset to fix.

Thanks. Was going to try that next when I was back in my driveway. Now that everything is nominal I won't.

Had also crossed my mind to inspect the hardware. Is the wifi receiver in the tail fin or is that just for the car's cell phone data receiver?

These things will happen when you drive a computer every day.

Likely a delayed switching between home WiFi connection and phone WiFi connection.
No, definitely not. I know that effect. I can see phone connected for minutes/hour. I switched between my two phones and the car would connect to each phone.

I was nowhere near my home network.

Essentially I had a controlled experiment with multiple phones, multiple connect opportunities both within and without my homes wifi network, pre and post reset, deleting and restoring phones, etc ...

It seems to have been a software issue and the car had it's first real example I've seen of getting caught up in some weird processing loop.

In any case I got my answer on Rivians policy not changing.
