Any chance you have a diamond ring and hit it on the glass while passing the bottle?

Nope. No diamond ring and it was definitely the plastic lid of the bottle. There was a small scuff mark on the lid where it hit.

Maybe you hit it on the edge of the bottle or like someone else said with a diamond ring or something. I never hit my glass and I'm not going to go smack it now to test but that just seems off to me.

I’ve been driving for over 30 years and I’ve never seen glass in any of my cars break as easy as this. I’ve had sunroofs, moonroofs, even a Mustang with a t-top. This was has to be the most delicate piece of glass in an automobile that I’ve ever seen for it to crack like this with such little force.

lol - I wish I could say it was something stupid like that because at least it would be understandable. But this didn’t even register as something that would remotely have a chance at breaking the glass.

I’ve been paranoid about doing something like this, or hitting it with my head while I’m cleaning the back seat area. That said, we got hailed on three times last year, one of those occasions was a real scare as it hailed hard with larger stones (I know because we were on our bikes riding back to the truck and those suckers hurt!). Got back and the roof was a mess of shattered ice and I thought, for sure, cracked glass. But the ice melted and to my surprise, glass was just fine. So there’s your anectode for the day.

VIN is 12xxx, and I’ve dropped my crossbars (with the SUP mount on them) on the pano glass once while installing them, and managed not to crack anything.

It was a pucker-factor-11 moment, and I don’t plan on testing my luck like that again.

I originally planned on roof bars for my R1S, but after seeing these pano failures, I'm not putting anything up there.

We've had our R1T for about a week and this morning I managed to crack the glass on the pano roof by attempting to pass a water bottle over the driver's seat. The plastic lid of the bottle grazed the roof and caused a crack. Is the roof really this fragile that something can break it with almost no force? Has anyone else cracked the glass from the inside like this? And more importantly, how hard is it to get this fixed by Rivian?

To be honest it was probably already cracked from the factory... They replace a lot of those at the factory and a lot don't get inspected before delivery. PDI is also a complete joke at the service centers and they have the contractors doing a lot of the PDI work.

I'd chalk this up to a small hairline crack that was already there but very hard to see. I watched some pano glass crack when people tried to clean it...

The Rivian insurance (Progressive) included a very reasonable option for comprehensive glass coverage... this is one reason I went with their policy for this vehicle.

Can you tap on it to see if glass or Poly? Mine is definitely poly. Though I guess poly can crack too?

The pano roof is not polycarbonate on any Rivians. It is glass.
