Dark staining on yellow calippers

Hello, just noticed my front calipers have staining, , Im using the same cleaning materials/product as ive used with my previous painted calipers on a bmw, paint is smooth to the touch, appear dirty but wont rub off. Stained area doesnt feel any different as if just surface dirt. Mostly on front passenger side. Wonder if this has happened before

That looks like brake dust that got wet, then the water drops evaporated.

Definitely look like brake dust, however they have been cleaned with my detail brush, are completely smooth to the touch and any aggressive scrubbing seem to only scratch the surface

I wish I had time to spend washing a car...I live on 27 acres so always something more important.

This is what i use for tire / brake dust and wheel itself. I haven’t needed anything more aggressive on previous car. i dont want to rub rub ruin the paint since its only 1 month old!

Are those iron removers - they will say if they are or not.

an iron remover will be less aggressive than your scrubbing - as long as you don’t let it dry on the finish.

I don’t live on 27 acres and so I washed and ceramic coated my wheels and calipers today. Your turtle wax bottle has an iron remover. I’d say try that, or alcohol pads if that doesn’t work.

Yes, get a pure iron remover. Then a good ceramic coating will help keep it from happening as bad going forward.

Thanks, will try an more focused product, seems like yellow needs way more tlc compared to the traditional red calipers ?

I find I get a grease build up on mine from whatever Rivian assembled the brakes with. I also think the paint is pretty thin/cheap on the calipers.

if iron remover doesn’t clean them you can try some polish by hand. Something mild like Meguiars scratch-x should remove it easily.

I wouldn't jump straight to polish. If the iron remover somehow doesn't work, I would try a clay bar next. Any amount of polish or compounding will remove material you can't put back. The general rule with paint correction is to also start with the least aggressive and least abrasive and work your way up. Brake dust is a contaminant on top of the paint surface, so try the iron remover and then a clay bar to see if you can pull those contaminants out.

Hope you get that nasty stuff off!
As I did with my other EVs, while getting full PPF installed on my R1S, I also had wheels face, barrel, and brake calipers fully ceramic-coated. Highly doubtful I ever will deal with this aggravating nonsense.
