I’m sure the front grill is adding to the noise but I feel the top pad is also contributing to the vibration sound I’m hearing.
Same here. I can see the upholstered dash top pad vibrating against the wood trim above the center touchscreen.

I think that there needs to be a reinforcement in the dashboard from the edge of the speaker grill that’s closest to the center screen (where it meets the upholstered section) which rigidly connects it to something below it: floor, firewall, etc.

I think the weight of the center speaker isn’t helping things, either. I’d be tempted to remove that speaker and test on a washboard road without it.

I 100% agree with you. Crazy when I did the test drive event (on and off road driving) the R1T I drove didn’t rattle at all. They must have really went through it to make sure everything was bolted down. When I drove on a dirt road in Joshua tree I thought my dash pad was an about to pop off. The rough roads in Palos Verdes make my car rattles all the time. I’m at the point I would pay someone to fix this issue.
I had a 12 year old Lexus RX330 that made less noise than my Rivian.

I’ve recently taken my car to the service center for this rattling. It doesn’t rattle anymore. They said they added more foam and clips.

Also, Rivian knows this is a common issue and are in the process of redesigning this piece

I had this issue and with this part of the mesh grill. I was able to address my rattle with a small DIY project. Happy to share if you’re getting the same rattle.

Quick way to diagnose: If you drive over the same road while you active press down on the middle part of the mesh grill, do you still hear the rattling?

Center grill is just clipped into place. Go slow and a plastic pry bar should do the trick.
You inspired me... Went for it and fixed it by placing some cut up chair felt pads on the top and side edges of the hvac under the speaker grill. One test drive later and 0 noise now!
