I had this issue and with this part of the mesh grill. I was able to address my rattle with a small DIY project. Happy to share if you’re getting the same rattle.

Quick way to diagnose: If you drive over the same road while you active press down on the middle part of the mesh grill, do you still hear the rattling?

I’m not sure if this is the same thing others are seeing or if what I have is different. In my case, the top portion of the dashboard vibrates a lot over washboard road surfaces. In particular, the area where the center speaker grill meets the upholstered top surface moves vertically by what I’d estimate to be 1/2” to 3/4” and at times the edge of the upholstered piece just above the center screen and wood trim is vibrating, too.

Everyone else seems to be talking about the leading edge of the grill where it meets the windshield. Is what I captured below what others are seeing (you can see the movement in the video) and hearing?

I haven’t put in a service ticket yet since it doesn’t happen on-road and I figured I’d combine with whatever crops up next.

Yeah I have this too. Annoying. I wish I could get in there and tape everything down or put some foam.

If I drive the same road but press my hand down on the center mesh, it doesn’t make the noise, which to me confirms the noise source

I saw so much vertical movement that I can't imagine that anything short of an internal brace where the grill meets the upholstery will keep it still. It makes me wonder how Rivian couldn't fit even a tiny glove box in the dash yet apparently left a huge void in the center of the whole thing to allow the dash cap assembly to move that much. I bet the weight of the center speaker isn't helping things, either, if it is held by the same plastic(?) the speaker grill attaches to.

I don’t think it’s the vertical movement alone that causes the noise, but the vertical movement is causing some plastic on plastic rub. As in my earlier post, I was able to remedy some of it with a small diy project, but I think there’s additional plastic on plastic rubbing happening underneath the center mesh. I have a service ticket filed for this in July. Hopefully, they can resolve

It seems it’s not uncommon for the speaker cover to rattle in the center up by the windshield. Next time it happens, try reaching up to the middle of the window and pressing down on the speaker grill. Of it goes away, there’s a loose clip there.

here’s the cure:
  1. Write up a ticket and take it in for service
  2. Get some small felt stickers (like used on the. Ottom on a chair leg on wood floors) in dark brown or black. Apply one of the stickers to the same area where the rattle occurs. This will usually silence offending speaker grill.

I had the same experience taking my vehicle on a dirt road. Makes me never to want to do it again. Some adventure vehicle. I took it to service they added a dash pad under the grill. It didn’t help. I feel like there are loose screws.

Did they happen to make any mention on how they went about removing the grill?

No, but the guy did say there are 6 screws along the front that hold the dash to the chassis. I asked him if they can check those. He told me it’s probably not the issue. Sounded like they are under the dash pad. Which was going to be a lot of work to check.

As for the front grill I read on Reddit a guy used small plastic pry bars to pop the grill off.

I’m sure the front grill is adding to the noise but I feel the top pad is also contributing to the vibration sound I’m hearing.
