Hey all. I deep scratched the rear right panel of my R1T while backing into my garage. See photo. The car rubbed against a camping chair hanging off the wall. Frustrating but it is what it is and I got no one to blame but myself. ;-) My questions for the group:

1) Is there a new method outhere to fix this without a full panel repaint?

2) If panel repaint is the way to go, has anyone done this and if so, how much was it ballpark?

Thanks all.

Full panel required to get the clear coat up under the doors like Rivian recommends. Shop around, prices vary widely. Some shops want to pull the doors which requires disconnecting the high voltage. Mine is getting exactly this repair done in San Diego from a Rivian certified location. Cost is $2k.

Try cleaning it up and seeing how far the scratch goes. I had someone unintentionally drag the zipper of their jacket against the side of the truck right where your scratch is. To my surprise, the mark came out without much effort.

If it's not through the clearcoat, you may have good results with Scratch-X and/or some rubbing compound.

If it's deeper and the scratch won't buff out, try Dr. Colorchip touchup. It can make it a lot less visible even if it doesn't completely eliminate it. A skilled detailer may have some other options, though you may be getting into the triple digits. Last resort would be a repaint since the price will skyrocket.

Thanks! Helpful. Gives me a cost magnitude.

Unfortunately, this a deep scratch. Goes right through to the white base coat. I’ve buffed my way out of scratches before but sadly, not this time I’m afraid.
