Hello - I ordered R1S in March 2021. My delivery window is Sep-Oct 2023. I was given access to R1 shop (I didn't ask for it). Are there any timelines for the following features?
  1. New suspension
  2. New center console
  3. Heat pump
  4. Migration to in-house enduro motors
  5. 800v architecture
I own a Tesla Model Y Performance w/FSD and a Model 3. I am thinking of delaying the delivery of R1S until most of these features are in production. Curious to hear your thoughts on this. Any other new features planned for this or early next year?

My understanding is
1. No timeline
2. No timeline
3. No timeline
4. Assuming for quad enduro? If so, no timeline. Would also probably be an increased price given the increase in available power. Maybe?
5. No timeline

I expect that any significant changes won’t get you a vehicle at pre-increase pricing.

What are your concerns about the suspension?

If the center console issue is that the portion under the armrest isn’t practical for how you’d use it, there are plenty of organizer options available for the upper portion and I wouldn’t let the ~$25-$50 price influence my decision on delivery, but that’s just me.

Thanks @SoCal Rob.

There are noise issues with current suspension. No? I remember seeing threads on this topic. Also, there was news couple months ago that Rivian is switching to a new suspension.

I don’t hear anything unusual with our suspension, April build 7xxx VIN, but I also came from a 2006 Land Rover LR3 with air suspension and 249,000 miles so maybe my perspective is different? Nobody who has ridden in our R1S has said anything about suspension noise, either, so maybe we don’t have any unusual noises.

I recall news about Rivian switching to a new air compressor system for the existing air suspension, but I think that occurred in March. I haven’t seen anything about a new suspension in general.

How long can we delay our orders? I'm thinking on not taking delivery this week and delaying until early 2024 (my original ETA was Aug 2023). Does Rivian allow that? Will they force me to take delivery of the next VIN?

I asked whether I can push the delivery until next year and they did not say no. I am going to delay unless they force me to buy this year.

You need to be aware of vehicle changes. If you have pre-March pricing and things change where those options are no longer available you will lose the early prices.

I would think they will be somewhat flexible but they will need to get these price-protected vehicles off the books so at some point I’m sure there will be a use it or lose it decision to be made.

Huh? None of those are going to be are planned for the R1. If you have a Quad motor on order you will get the current Quad motors. If you have a Dual motor on order you will get the Enduro motors. If you're waiting for those things, then you're going to be waiting a long time.

I came from a Tesla as well. Considering how new the truck is I don't think any of this...aside from the Enduro motors...will be coming anytime soon.

The Enduro motors should start delivering next month if the delivery estimates some have are correct. Rivian CS told me "by the end of summer". So switching to DM may not delay your order and since you have pre March 22 pricing may not be as beneficial.

Every vehicle manufacturer changes the architecture and features of the vehicles overtime. If you sit around and wait for tomorrow for the better features, tomorrow will have even better features for the day after tomorrow. When does it stop? If you like the vehicle buy it, and quit waiting for the perfect vehicle. From the reviews that have been done on the rivian it’s about as close to a perfect vehicle as you can get in the market today. That’s not fanboy talk that’s simply reading the objective market reviews.

There was an announcement a while ago from the suspension manufacturer that allowed them to say they are producing for Rivian instead of just an un-named company. It's not new stuff per se.

There have been some updates to control arms and subframes and such, but Rivian has never talked about those, they just implemented them.

If OP is waiting for a particular technology like 800V charging, I anticipate that just happening like other incremental updates.
