First off, thanks for all the posts - it has been very helpful to read both positive and negative ones.

Due to the uncertain timeline of our R1S delivery, we leased a bolt which ends lease end of March. Our delivery estimate, however, is Sep-Oct. Does anyone have any experience with delaying delivery to match the sale/return of their previous car?

I would, if I could have, return the bolt early but unfortunately that is money that is already gone. I also briefly considered buying the Bolt and trading it in to Rivian but I'd have to eat the loss since I'm pretty sure I won't get 20K for a 2.5 year old Bolt. I also need to lock in the order to get a quote which means I'd have to take delivery when they find/build me a car (is that correct?)

Any other ideas?

Hopefully they won't remove canyon red with white interior till then!

PS: As a data point, my Rivian guide was extremely responsive for all my questions!

Do you have a delivery estimate yet? Maybe ask for delayed shop access to align to your timeline and just pick something that’s available at that moment.

I do, it says September - October (was previously Oct - Dec). I'm pretty much decided on my config but this is why I haven't locked it in.

I'm curious about this too. I haven't locked in my configuration yet because I'd like to delay delivery until 2024, since that would provide eligibility for a higher tax credit in my state (Colorado).

It sounds like you asked a Rivian guide about this? What was the response there?

Your guide can do this. They can delay or put on hold the delivery but who knows what happens after that delay is finished. No guarantee of a delivery at a certain date I don’t think

The $5000 Colorado state tax credit went into effect July 1st of this year. You don't have to wait for 2024 to take delivery. The extra $2500 starting January 1, 2024 is only for vehicles with an MSRP of $35,000 or less, which no Rivian qualifies for.

I'm planning to just not lock in the order until I'm ready to take delivery ?
