So I need a place to rant after the last 3 weeks dealing with trying to get my Rivian delivered.

My first delivery attempt was not successful because my trade in vehicle would not turn over because of a failed fuel pump and the third party does not take cars that can't be driven (totally fair) I paid the difference within 30 minutes (while the delivery guy was still at my house) but because of a law in MA he would have to comeback in 24 hours to deliver the truck again. While .5 miles from my house the driver gets into an accident and totals a honda civic by rear ending it on the way back to the service center.

Fast forward 3 week later, I complete the 8 step process again and pick a delivery date/time and get confirmation only to be called by my Guide that they have to cancel because the truck is still in Normal and never left the plant.

I understand Rivian is a new company, but some of this stuff is just ridiculous. I am completely dejected with the entire situation, I don't even care about the truck anymore. Rivian has successfully turned what was supposed to be a great way celebrate my birthday into a complete nightmare.

Maybe just me but I’m a bit confused on how you worded this. The Rivian got into the accident on the way back to the service center ? When you say you completed the 8 steps it’s the second time round on a new and not totaled Rivian?

Also confused...

1. You tried to sell a non-operable vehicle. That's on you.

2. They were at your house for delivery... Wasn't the R1T there? How was it still in Normal?

Correct. Did the 8 steps the first time, they brought the truck to my house. Couldn't complete because of issue with the trade in, so they had to take it back to service center (that is when they crashed it). 3 weeks later, I have a new VIN and complete the 8 steps again and get a new delivery date (even get a text this morning telling me I will have my truck in 24 hours) Then get called by my guide saying they have to cancel because the truck is not in Boston but is still in Normal and they can't get it there in time.

1. I acknowledged that was on me. I also transferred them the $$$ difference while the truck was still at my house

2. The first truck made it to Boston (and was wrecked) the second one was said to be in Boston and ready for delivery but wasn't

That sucks. Sounds like some bad luck.

The bright side is that you will have your truck soon and you and the delivery person were not injured.

these things do happen, but I feel your pain for the delayed delivery.

I agree that sucks and Rivian's communications obviously need to improve (nothing new), but it really isn't Rivian's fault they tried to deliver your new truck and could not because of your trade in and a state law.

Domino effect, everything was based on #1, but feel free to cancel. One step closer for me to get my truck.

Yeah, it came down to the drive expecting the regen breaking to kick in but since for delivery they charge it to 100% they did not. He was 100% okay and so were the people in the other vehicle.

The cop was amazed at how little damage was on the Rivian based on what the other car looked like

I think home deliveries should be done with a flat bed to avoid this kind of risk. Especially in urban areas with lots of traffic and bad weather. There is just too much risk to have employee's driving future customer cars around on deliveries.

Dealers have been doing it for 100 years. Vehicle is offloaded from the transport truck then they're almost exclusively moved around by being driven.

Are you saying regen didn't kick in because they fully charged the truck? Forgive me, but that doesn't sound likely. I've been driving EV's since 2017 and as soon as I'm out of my driveway regen is on and active.

Regen is active but it is significantly reduced as SoC increases beyond 85%

Fair enough, but it doesn't go into 'freewheel' status. And if he drove it *to* the OP's house one would assume that he was aware and responsive to the SOC changes before driving it back to the service center...
