We all want to think that if the other person had just done it our way, they wouldn't be suffering.

It's an insecure world. We're all trying to find our way the best we can. Sometimes we make errors.

At our best in this forum, we help each other navigate the complex world of EVs -- and of Rivian.

At our worst, we shout at each other because the shouting makes us feel better.

Hoping for the best outcome, @runbuh. Very best wishes!

Seems to me like you overreacted.
I don’t understand. OP used a payment method given as an option by Rivian. And OP is wrong here?

I’m not saying I would have reacted the same way by cancelling the order, but you can’t blame someone for following Rivian’s instructions.
I didn't say the OP was wrong, did I? And I didn't blame the OP. I said the OP overreacted. And by doing so ended up with nothing except for a lost check and no car. Please read more carefully.

You wrote “I chose to wire the money to arrive the day before my delivery. If you had done that you would have your vehicle today and would be very happy.”

That means OP did it “wrong.” Or it’s OPs fault.

Please write more carefully.

1 - You mean the email from RIVIAN FINANCIAL SERVICES? No such info was included for Alabama residents (Alabama residents are stuck with an entirely different payment process)
2 - I called RIVIAN FINANCIAL SERVICES (as I was directed to do BY RIVIAN). When you call the number (844-868-2143) you are greeted with “Welcome to RIVIAN FINANCIAL SERVICES”
3 - The person I spoke with started the conversation with “Thank you for calling RIVIAN FINANCIAL SERVICES”
4 - I sent the check to a RIVIAN FINANCIAL SERVICES mailing address

The only way I knew it was Chase behind the scenes was when I called the number that RIVIAN HAD PROVIDED, and after I received the “Welcome to RIVIAN FINANCIAL SERVICES” greeting, the phone bot asked if I was calling about a car I had previously financed through Chase. I also verified the address via Google maps (before I sent the check) and it was a Chase office.

Heres’ their number - feel free to verify the greeting:
844-868-2143

You're really confirming that you may lack some reading comprehension. I was talking about the PURCHASE AGREEMENT that you signed and received an email for.

This is on page 2, in very plain sight:

His comment didn't say the OP was wrong, just that doing it another way would have been easier and quicker. I agree that the OP was not wrong but overreacted to the error.

So to cut to the chase, let me repeat that I was not blaming the OP for the situation. I was saying the the OP overreacted and by doing that made the situation worse and did not lead to the desired outcome. And while there have been a lot of OP-blamers in this thread, I am not one of them.

TL;DR:
You wrote “I chose to wire the money to arrive the day before my delivery. If you had done that you would have your vehicle today and would be very happy.”

If you take one sentence out of context it changes the meaning of the paragraph. The next sentence starts with "or" - I was laying out various scenarios where the OP could have gotten a good result, one of which was sending a check but dealing with the wrong address differently. I absolutely did not say that sending a check was wrong. Other posters said that, I didn't. Other posters have blamed the OP, I simply said the OP could have handled it better and gotten a better result.

But the OP decided to cancel the order almost immediately when there was a hiccup in the process. That was overreacting. There could have been a happy ending if it weren't for that. That was a choice the OP made. I wouldn't have made the same choice. Just recognize that when you take the nuclear option it's you who's willfully blowing up the deal - if you're going to be forever sore about the fact you didn't get a car, perhaps you shouldn't have canceled the order and instead worked to resolve the problem.

Cancelling the order changed the whole transaction from dealing with an annoying and possibly time consuming problem to one where the OP STILL had to deal with an annoying and time consuming problem (getting the check back) but in return got NOTHING.

I also addressed what I saw was irrational fear of using a wire transfer. Again, I didn't say using a check was wrong, just that it's a choice that has downsides that the OP chose to accept when the OP made that choice.

That is NOT the address my check would go to, as I live in Alabama and Rivian handles things differently for residents in my state.

When I could no longer find the address online, where it had been showing me the address for over a week, I simply contacted Rivian support. They directed me to contact Rivian Financial Services. They should know, right? This is their company, and this is their process. Why is that so hard to understand? I didn’t come here to this forum and ask. I didn’t post it up on Xitter. I asked Rivian where I should send the check made out to them. Why on earth would I think they gave me the wrong address?

You forgot the really important part: the EXPENSIVE part of the problem, costing me an additional several thousand dollars, with NO offer of help from Rivian in locating (much less using) the several thousand dollars they already had in hand.

Did it really cost you thousands of dollars? Or would you have gotten your money back from the first check?

You're still missing the point! Go look at your own purchase agreement, take a screenshot and tell me that they didn't have clear instructions for YOU, specifically.

In summary. OP was a hothead out for revenge, cut-off-his-nose-to-spite-his-face and created a clusterf&#k on top of a another clusterf&#k with no happy ending.

It would have cost me thousands of dollars for the 90 days it takes to get your money back from a stop payment on a certified check, if Rivian Financial Services had not already deposited the check before I put the stop payment in. If RFS had already deposited the check (and I’m still waiting to find out), then this would have been much more expensive and difficult to get worked out. And this goes right back to one of my concerns: Rivian flat out refused to help. Rivian would not work with Rivian Financial Services. They refused when I requested that they help, and that they escalate.

Additionally, you did get me to wondering about “how did I miss that?”. It might be because that documention notification from Rivian Financial Services arrived after the certified check had already been delivered to Rivian Financial Services. I sent the check via FedEx on Monday to Rivian Financial Services, it arrived on Tuesday morning, and the Rivian Financial Services ”YOUR FINANCE AGREEMENT” email, with the “Go to Documents” link, arrived 2 hours after the check had been delivered to Rivian Financial Services.

I’m so happy that you feel comfortable throwing several additional thousand dollars to Rivian, when you just handed them the several thousand dollars, when they refuse to help do anything about where the first several thousand dollars went. You just keep throwing more money at a problem and hope it gets better? Great. Glad you have that kind of scratch on hand.

You keep responding to me with Rivian Finance and I don't understand why. I've never mentioned them in any of my responses. Your PURCHASE AGREEMENT is not your FINANCE AGREEMENT. PURCHASE AGREEMENT is the first thing you sign.
