Anyone else experiencing their hvac totally messed up?

I'm on a road trip and have noticed that I can't find a comfortable temperature anymkre. If I set it at a set temperature sometimes it blows hot air and sometimes cold air. For example I set the temp to 63 for 30 mins and it was blasting Luke warm air. Then randomly it starts blowing cold air. The colored illustrations don't line up anymore either it never matches what's really happening. Also, if I set it at one temperature, if I set it on auto it changes the temp of air.

The back vents are messed up as well

Am I the only one?

I actually had the same issue recently on a roadtrip. I was utilizing the tri-climate but I’d put it at 65 and it felt like 80. As of now I’ve put in a service request for this.

I should add that this was before the most recent update so not sure if something needs to be recalibrated but hopefully a fix is found. But I don’t believe it is from this new update.

It's the same for me since the last update. Very inconsistent hvac behavior.

I realized it’s not probably easy to do multi zone climate with just a heap pump. AFAIK, the heat pump either cools or heats only, can’t support doing both at once.

so say it’s 65° out, and driver wants 62° and passenger wants 70°. I don’t see how this can be achieved without toggling the heat pump between hot and cold operation. Since Gen2 doesn’t have resistance heating elements.

but my experience as been same as OP since delivery (gen2 R1s), and hasn’t improved much with this update. Just wildly inconsistent results with HVAC

just thinking out load here but one possible approach to solving this would be to mix cold air from the outside with the hot air from the heat pump. By controlling the ratio of cold vs hot air you can achieve this kind of control.

Since the last Nov update my HVAC seems to turn the vents off whenever the vehicle sleeps or sits for an extended period of time. In the beginning, it seemed like HVAC wasn’t working, but now I’m kind of used to having to turn my vents back on at the beginning of most drives.

My vents used to just reposition to default/straught, but since this update they turn off. I’ve resubmitted my service ticket and hope to have this addressed in Jan.

Could this be similar to what others are experiencing?

(I just got the Dec update and haven’t checked if it’s fixed or different now)

not if situation is: it’s 65° out, and driver wants 62° and passenger wants 70°?

heat pump can only heat/cool the 65° outside air. but if demand is opposite directions from what is outside, I dont see how that can be managed.

I do agree what you are saying if outside temp is lower or higher than all requested temps in the cabin. but maybe my example is a very niche ?

Yes. Have seen the same problem since the update. Is Rivian aware and does anyone know if they are addressing?

That’s a tricky one. One possible solution is to throw away the passenger ?

Gen2 R1T. OAT - 18f. I had to set the heat to 65 to not have it roast us with a cabin approaching 80f.

Gen 1 T - I've always struggled with the "auto" setting calling for heat. It'll blow hot for a minute and then start blowing cool and I just figured "ok, ambient temperature is probably correct so it backed off, but they have to fine tune the mix or tweak for a "feels-like" temperature"

Now it's worse because it blows got for a moment and then it blows really cold. Like, AC Cold.

And for the life of me I don't see the heated/vented seat option the update notes talk about.

I put in a ticket today also for lack of proper heat...even at the HI setting I'm getting cool air coming through vents....doesn't appear to be a hardware issue because if I precondition I get nice warm air....but clearly something causing it to blow out colder air when driving
