This is just a question to see if anyone else has had issues with a Gen2 vehicle and aftermarket TPMS sensors.

I have a new Gen2 R1S and bought aftermarket wheels from EV Sportline to run snow tires on in the winter. The aftermarket TPMS sensors in the new wheels will not be recognized by the R1S. I have a TPMS programming tool that I have used for many other vehicles in the past, and it will interrogate the sensors at the wheel and verify they are functional as 433 MHz sensors. The car, however, will not register them after 150 miles of split city and highway driving. I get an error message of TPMS system failure and to contact service.

I have spoken to Rivian service, and they have scheduled a mobile service, but not for another month.

My wife's Gen1 R1T uses the same EV Sportline wheels bought a year ago and has no issue switching between OEM wheels/sensors and the aftermarket wheels/sensors.

I'm just wondering if anything changed with Gen2 vehicles, or is it just a coincidence that my TPMS module in the car went out and now needs replacement by Rivian?

I could throw the OEM wheels back on, but that's a lot of work to diagnose the issue. Plus, it's wintertime in Colorado, and I need the snow tires right now.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Is there a way to force the TPMS system to reset other than by rebooting the computers, which I have already tried?

My aftermarket wheels still have my original Rivian sensors from my gen. 1 and they work fine with my gen 2.

Thanks. My Autel TPMS device only shows R1S from 2022-2023, even after the device software update. It's a little behind in updating the database, but it sounds like nothing has changed. It will scan both the OEM tires (now off the car) and the aftermarket tires the same.

It's probably the car TPMS system, so I will just let Rivian figure it out.

I am interested in the R1X, though. My device only shows EDV, R1T, and R1S. I assume EDV is the Amazon van? What's RPV?

My winters were programmed by EVSportline when I had my Gen 1 (never tested on the gen1) and when I put them in the Gen 2 they just worked.

I had a similar issue that came up in my Gen 1 after 2024.17.xxx OTA. Same error and service vehicle soon message. I have a Rivian Engineer neighbor that had to input tpms MAC addresses (I think that was it) using a connected Rivian Service computer. The short answer is, it will require a knowledgeable service tech to make it work again and mimic what was done. I was told their is a TPMS software team at Rivian, and they told him how to fix it. Not sure he was ever told what caused it.
