Ha, I noticed my early vin (<800) R1T Launch Edition came with a Prototype Pirelli Scorpion 20" spare tire when I was taking pictures for the marketplace.

From what I understand, prototype tires generally go to Rivian employee vehicles for testing / validation / etc?

Interesting oops. None of the tires bolted to the truck are prototype... just the spare.

Looking to trade for it, see marketplace section. (I won't link here)

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Welp - that certainly doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence.

I’m sure it’s fine, but still …

Haha. I actually called Rivian to see if they want it back. I was looking to sell it for some cargo bars, so i'll see if they'll give me some stuff for it :)

I don't think it's dangerous or anything... but i'd hate if someone got into an accident on the prototype tire and it raise some weird legal issue for Rivian.

Rivian confirmed I shouldn't have it.. however their engineering department also confirmed that the prototype tires weren't changed before release so it "should be fine" lol

They offered to swap it for another "normal" full-size spare, but that's a lot of work for a "6 month newer tire".

Back for trade in market ?

Why not swap for a new one? I had mine installed a few weeks back and it was an easy 15 minute mobile tech job. I feel like you'll have better luck trading with a non-prototype / newer spare.

I spy with my little eye a "Max load 1215kg" making it a 115 load index!!! Can you take a pic and confirm? If engineering confirmed it's safe and no change (there definitely was a change), we have verifiable proof that 115 is A-OKAY for our trucks!

Can I buy just the tire from you? I'd love to flaunt this to all the shops who refuse to do 115. ?
How much you offering? I'd give a discount for just the tire vs tire + rim. DM me. Shipping will suck though :-|

An update:
Well, I returned the tires to Costco. (I never took possession) Just got a refund.
I bought a "No Name Brand" tire from Simpletire.
I chose a 285/60/20, a fatter tire than the 275's. The diameter was 33.5 inches, where I believe the speedo would be almost 100% accurate. The 275/60's were 33" even in diameter.
It's called a Otani SA2100!
I really am never going to go off road, Florida is too flat and has no mountain trails.
I am just looking for a good looking tire that is comfortable on city and highway streets.
