Can you provide a link, this is not quite right. I would not call it "simply with your hand" as if that is a feature.He also demonstrated that you can stop it at any point of lifting simply with your hand and it stops. When you hit the button again, it does not go up but goes down.
Yes, it can be done but it is quite forceful and requires some effort to "fight" the lift and you can tell you are causing more stress than simply letting it rise. The car also provides an error message and flashes red message/indicator on the center screen. I don't know what it says since I can't read it when at the rear.
I also don't trust the family to find and time the button press at the right time. It is more natural to just grab the tailgate and pull it down, but I agree with OP that it also feels like creating additional strain, significantly more in my opinion.
