It's not just you, the Rivian AI voice sounds too stereotypically "millennial" to me, with her vocal fry and up-talk. I am expecting her to start every reply with "Yeah, so..."

Now that I've gotten that off my chest I have to go shout at those damn kids to get off my lawn.
I don't even have time to yell at the kids, there's so many damn clouds to get through first!

Maybe I'm too Midwestern, but I've spent the majority of my life working at major silicon valley companies and I can't get over how absolutely "condescending, 20-something, LA/San Fran cashier who hates their job and hates you worse for making them DO their job" the Rivian Assistant sounds to me. Why is there so much vocal fry?

Like it makes sense that voice "sounds right" to the people out in CA and their technology peers - because it sounds like everyone I've worked with out there the last decade or so 😂

No, I am not nearly as mad about this as the rant above might make it seem. Yes, I am having a little fun venting about it. Yes, it really does annoy me every time I hear her responses. Yes, I do hope we get more options in the future.

Also, I have hit a reproducible "bug" when asking for navigation.

Provide a street address, assistant finds multiple options for that address across cities & states, asks for clarification. Provide clarification, assistant finds the right address, confirms it is going to navigate to it... But nothing happens. It never actually sets up the nav for the address.

Anyone else seeing this behavior?
Life's too short to worry about the voice of a f**king robot.

The Rivian AI voice does not sound grating to me, per se. And I am in Florida, not California. That being said, I find it annoying for the default always being female when the most common form of hearing loss is high frequency (which I have as a documented VA disability). That is why at home I’ve changed my Alexa voice to male. Female, higher pitched voices are harder to understand. So I’ll lay the need for Rivian to offer different voices as an ADA compliance issue.

Must just be a matter of taste... I like the voice, it makes me feel funny, like when I used to climb the rope in gym class.

I get pissed at my blender when it makes noises that sound like a California YUPPIE. o_O Other voices would be fun but I could care less what a machine sounds like as long as it can be heard and understood. I guess I have more important things in life to rant about than an AI voice?

I’ll change my AI voices to have a British accent. They always sound so smart…

To me, the Rivian assistant voice sounds very similar to the Alexa+ voice., mellow version. At least, Rivian Assistant doesn't keep calling me "dude." After all, Alexa knows my name from voice recognition. I guess that having been raised in Southern Nevada and educated in Southern California, thase voices seem normal to me.

I’m casting my vote for AI Wyclef Jean.
I had my vote down for "God" / Morgan Freeman.

Close second would have been James Earl Jones.

Peg Bundy would work as well. Katey Sagal...

When I first saw this post, I thought, "Nah, OP is just being overly-sensitive."

This morning, I did an about face. I asked assistant to turn off the AC as I pulled out of my driveway, and the response of "Adjusting the climate control" 100% sounded like a 20-something fed up retail clerk directing a customer to the alcohol aisle for the 14th time that shift 🤣

I'm not sure what it is, but I do wonder if there is a separate voice model when the vehicle is still starting up? Most of the time, it sounds perfectly fine to me, the only difference I can tell this time is that none of the sensors had woken up yet, so maybe Assistant has "morning voice" too.

I choose to interpret her voice as a new Cortana version...and hope Master Chief will show up if I need him, lol.

I don't dislike the voice. Though, I tried "tell me a joke" and the joke was lame so I said "that was terrible" and it responded "oh no!" In the most sarcastic, IDGAF, voice I've ever heard. I actually laughed at the response. 🤣

Jones & Freeman were my first 2 thoughts.

Next person that popped into my head was Patrick Warburton, seemed like he'd be hilarious. Do it as Kronk, Brock Samson, or the wolf from Hoodwinked. Basically any of his voice work, it's all great.
