Does anyone else find the new side camera views distracting and useless?

... I didn’t like it when Telsa did it either (arguably more dangerous because they put the image on the center screen)…
You can slide the image onto a different screen location

Images from G2 cameras are certainly more clearer, I do find them useful and from a safety perspective, I happened to have caught someone on an incumbent bike when I was about to make a right turn.

I find the new side camera views which show up when a turn signal is activated distracting and pretty much useless. In order to see anything smaller than a car (e.g. someone walking or a cyclist) one has to pay way to much attention to the image. Can someone tell me why they are supposed to be useful? I would find it much more helpful if the light on the mirrors were more obvious when someone is in the blind spot, similar to what a 2019 Subaru Forester does.
I turned them off because the steer wheel hides them, they literally take your eyes off the road and I like to actually look. Beside the mirror warns you along with the truck image on the useless driver screen.

I am still waiting for the moment when my brain kicks in and is able to integrate that side view into my greater sense of the geography around me. Right now when I look at the side view, I don't really understand what I am seeing or how it fits into my surroundings.

I find these very helpful when towing.

They are nice when backing into a spot with a curb. Helps avoid curb rash

they are dangerous…..dont rely on them as electronics can lie as it does in airplanes. ALWAYS check your mirrors and blind spots physically and use the camera to SUPPLEMENT. Ok I am off my soapbox! Retired Airline Captain

Since mirrors don’t tilt on backup, it should be an option to have both images appear when in reverse. Again, optional, but an option.

So turn them off. They were never going to be super great on the Gen1 because the cameras are potatoes. For some of us they will be useful for towing.
My Tesla Model S has the same feature. I guess Rivian is following the suit but I find them not very useful. I couldn't turn the feature off on my Tesla. Is there a way to turn it off on Rivian? Could you tell me how?

I actually feel the icon in the side mirror along with the audible tone if someone is in your blind spot when signals are activated to be sufficient. Wish Tesla would adopt this exact warning system

Maybe this should have been a poll.

I live is south beach-the land of zippy scooters, electric bikes, electric skateboards, roller bladders… people who don’t stop at lights/intersections and find it an extremely useful visual aid to NOT accidentally kill one of those fools.

Gen 1 image quality isn't good enough for them to be useful to me in most driving conditions. It does help me be aware that I hit the turn signal arm too hard and it locked on, and then locked on in the other direction when I tried to nudge it off. Nothing like getting old and losing your eyesight and fine motor skills.
