dog proofing/accommodating

Just had the guide call and should be getting the truck in the (fingers crossed) near future. I have an 80-pound long coat Akita and a 40 lb. Korean Sapsali. Wondering if anyone with a current truck has made an accommodations for a big dog or so. Thinking of flipping the rear seat up and doing some kind of platform for them to hang out on along with upholstery protection. Any suggestions/experience/links would be appreciated.

We have two big dogs. I have a hammock that I keep back there because no humans ever use my back seat and door panel protectors that I put on for longer trips so the dogs don't scratch the upholstery on the doors. The hammock if installed correctly makes flipping the seats up unnecessary - they're pretty at ease and can easily move around as they please. Also, you can't flip up both seats anyways unless you want the dog to sit on your subwoofer.

I have been using a back seat cover made by Ruffwear. Still playing with it a bit. One issue I found is its a bit of a jump for my Golden/lab mix with the seats in normal, he can make it but takes him a few seconds of sizing it up.

Long term I have been thinking of flipping up the 60 side of the seat and building something out of plywood with a break and a hinge so I can access the storage below. Also will lower the height to get in.

Personally, I would put them in a kennel in the bed. IMO it is safer for both the dogs and the humans to have the dogs contained in a kennel. Less stressful for both parties as well - a well trained dog should be very comfortable spending time in a kennel, and you don't have to worry about them tearing up your seats.

I'm looking for a solution as well. Truck bed doesn't work for 4 months of the year as the weather can be pretty cold in the winter months.

My current truck (ridgeline, uses a 60/40 split) which is perfect for my dog. Unfortunately, can't do that with the R1T. I'd have to look at the hammock option but for a single seat since I have 2 kids in tow all the time when we go up to the cabin.

I use that same one. It's sturdy enough to last for a few months and get washed regularly, and cheap enough that I don't feel guilty throwing it out when it gets too gross. It also covers most of the doors on the sides and if you keep it zipped up the fur stays inside it.

I personally would not put a hard platform on leather seats because it will likely rub somewhere and ruin the leather. I would just go with the cover and one of these in the footwell:

What door panel protectors are you using? We really like the Tesla ones (after years of just using the zip-up style hammocks) because they keep drool off the interior trim when the pup is smearing her nose all over the windows, but haven't seen a generic/Rivian fit version.

I do the crate inside the vehicle. I really hope I can fit the crate in the R1T, but I am guessing it will be the R1S.

Gonna have to gamble! I actually had the same question today. The standard fits my ID.4 and xc60 well. The r1t is a bit bigger, but I have a feeling the truck size is meant for a full size truck.

My older dog (Akita) has some knee issues (me, too, btw) and has a stairway she uses to get in our Niro EV. That should work for the R1T as well...

I went with the ‘truck size’ on the AMAZ link above. My dog joins regularly at a very muddy new build site - she’s a real mud slinger in the car.
