This is actually a great idea and the Bolt is one of the most efficient EVs on the market.
And... no vampire drain, plus Android Auto/Carplay and SXM sat service.

I still haven't gotten the title for my Rivian yet either, almost been two months. Not super worried about it because I'm not looking to sell it, but I would be pretty annoyed if I was.

As a general comment, all this waiting for a title down in your country seems insane to me. Here in Alberta all you have to do if you want a new plate is let the dealer/manufacturer know, pay them the fee, and the plate/registration is already on the car before you pick up. If you want to transfer the plate its simple as well, just take the bill of sale to the registry office and they'll transfer it over in 5mins. Temp plates/waiting months for titles etc just seem like stupidity to me.

You’re the finance guy not me, but I think in 5 years your dollar cost average will look pretty good. Life is short, and it seems like you’re doing pretty well- enjoy your truck! I have two smaller kids- and I wonder if, by the time they’re behind the wheel, I can get acceleration, speed and location stats uploaded to my account. That type of data may make your son into a very safe and prudent driver (but if he’s got your taste for instant gratification, perhaps not!)

I took delivery end of March. Still have no plates, and no one at Rivian can tell me when that will happen either.

Rivian has SXM support through Alexa, FWIW.
We were discussing a suitable 1st car for a teenager... i.e. the Bolt.

Anyway, the SMX through Alexa on the Rivian stops working as soon as you're out of cell coverage area. The Bolt has an actual satellite receiver and antenna that will work anywhere in USA that has a clear shot at the sky.

Welp, to close one of the chapters of this saga, seller could not come up with a title for at least another 4-6 weeks, though the auction ended 11 days ago.

Kudos to Cars & Bids, they were responsive and as a resolution refunded the full "buyers" fee.

So I got that going for me, which is nice.

Cheers all. Thanks for the humor and support.

You are talking about 2 different things. That would be the registration, it shows the car is registered and legal to drive. The title shows ownership similar to a deed on real property.

You do not need to have a car registered to sell it but you do need to have the title.

Well, we don't have titles here in that case. The registration is the title.

Polestar 2 Single Motor models, nice sedan shape, 0-60 isn't get son in trouble speed

Pro you can find some 'pre configured' models at the port and have them sent to your nearest polestar space and be in one rather quickly

Con: not a lot of polestar spaces to pick up from, depending on where you are may be far away.

I got a loaded one recently, nice car. the goal of me owning it is by the R1T is here 2H23 my son will be driving this.

I'm thinking Polestar and then my Lightning will be here in a few months. I'm not counting on anything from Rivian.

I would second the Mini EV option for your son or, even better, a used BMW i3. Just make sure you get one that is 2016 and beyond as the first few model years had some issues that got ironed out by 2016.

Before the supply shortage issues, you could get a used, carbon fiber bodied i3 for 15K (50K originally).

You aren't going to do better in terms of cost and efficiency. The i3 is one of the most efficient (139 mpge) EVs on the road.

You guys are sure buying kids way nicer cars than my boys got...insurance rates alone must be killing you. Glad for you and your family (and especially your new driver) but it still amazes me! Rock on!!!

I still haven't gotten my title yet @moosehead. Coming up on 3 months of ownership pretty quick.
