On a 2nd gen Rivian R1T, Driver+ will show “unavailable” if it’s not on a clearly mapped divided highway or if lane markings aren’t detected well. Make sure cameras and sensors are clean (especially the windshield area), you’re above the minimum speed, seatbelt is on, and there are no dash warnings. If it still won’t engage, check for software updates or try a reset, otherwise it may need calibration through service.

For me it was the internal camera. You have to turn it on.

1. Enable the Interior Camera
By default, the cabin camera may be disabled for privacy. You must manually opt-in to allow the system to monitor your attention:

  • On your center display, go to Settings.
  • Select Data and Privacy.
  • Toggle Interior Camera to ON.
  • Note: You may also need to ensure Location Sharing is enabled for the vehicle to identify "hands-free" compatible zones.
2. Configure Driver+ Settings
Once the camera is enabled, you need to tell the car to use the "Enhanced" version of Highway Assist:

  • Go to Settings > Driver+.
  • Ensure Enhanced Highway Assist (or Universal Hands-Free) is toggled ON. If this is off, the car will default to standard Highway Assist, which requires your hands on the wheel at all times.
