Driver Screen Settings: Did You Know

Micro-navigation map is nice on the driver's screen, especially soon when they restore the names of upcoming cross streets. Seeing energy usage in real time is also nice. Sometimes I want to monitor tire pressure in real time too. Keep the three options on the far left button and far left of screen.

Dave, excellent ideas for the driver’s screen. I wouldn’t mind having the bird’s eye view for parking as well.

Do we know for sure that Rivian is going to restore street names to the Micro-navigation map? Removing them definitely was a step backwards and it now looks like the Tesla navigation map on the map screen in my ex-Y.

We have been asking Rivian for a few simple items to be added to the Driver Information Screen for several years now to no avail. They seem to be adding and tweaking many things that not many owners care about. Sometimes I have to wonder if any of the folks in the vehicle update unit have ever driven a Rivian or any other car for that matter. Having to go three steps into screen arrangements to find the odometer reading on the vehicle is annoying and unnecessary. I monitor this reading on my telephone app.

The three things I want, and don't have, on the driver screen are:

1) Odometer;
2) Clock; and
3) Large-font percent charge, replacing current small font.

Let me second all of this. It is inane that there is no Odometer on the dash. I just wasted an extra hour at PepBoys getting my state inspection done (No Rivian service center in PA) because the techs could not find the odometer and spent an hour passing the car around between techs , finally they came out and got me and I had to google it and go to the service bay to show them how to do it.

It seems Rivian suffers from engineers that drive only in their own little bubble - why would any drive without GPS mapping using the odometer to plan your exits? Why would you go to a non-Rivian technician who cannot find the odometer 3 menus down? Why would you want to note your mileage when you park your car? Why would you have to log your odometer multiple times per day for your job?

This is especially frustrating because the requested changes appear so obvious and easy.

None of these three changes requires a single new data point or a single new calculation. Just a relocation of the display for data they already collect and calculate.

Rivian wastes about 20% of the drivers-screen display with cartoon depictions of the approximate location of the vehicles whose location we can see more accurately through the windshield. The blind-spot warnings are appropriate in the drivers display, but I haven't heard of a single owner who likes Rivian's display of the traffic ahead of them. That is wasted real estate -- put it to use!

@CommonSense stated the reasons very very well. I'd only add one thing to @CommonSense's good list. Occasionally a dealer will advertise a Rivian as being low-mileage when it's not, because Rivian's miles-remaining is displayed on the driver's screen where every other car I've ever driven displays the odometer reading. (I don't think this is the dealer trying to mislead the customers. I think this is Rivian's poorly designed display that deceives the dealers.)

Since taking delivery, I've seen two updates that didn't fix this. I've seen countless complaints. What do we have to do to "get it right" on the simple stuff?

Strangely , the tech was not willing to sign the state legal attestation of mileage required in PA based on the app display. Personally I think he was being a wuss.

To me the bigger problem is not having it on the dashboard for navigational uses. Technically I don't need the official odometer , I could live with a trip odometer for those purposes.

But does no one derive joy from mileage milestones anymore? I often take pictures of my dash when rolling through fun mileage milestones - I just hit 66666 on my Ford Expedition.

Just kidding, but these are about the two most frequent "I just discovered this" topics. Someone with more time on their hands should really make a video we can just link to with all these things, to help new owners. Don't forget to include how to swipe up and how to reposition icons on the taskbar. ?

Even worse , since I bought my Rivian they took it from the main vehicle display and buried it in Settings->About. Why?

Per my comments, I really think it comes down to engineers that do not understand how people use their vehicle IRL. Their thinking - as voiced in Dark-FX's comment, "Why would you need an odometer? -> it's available in the app. Duh."
Vice versa - Here's a dumb and distracting animation of the vehicle collision avoidance system's, that is of no use to you in actually driving - but man - it's cool technology , amiright!?!"

Ha ha, I haven't done that one (seat belt) yet. Yeah, I know I'm whining , I complained about the lack of odometer in my day 1 commentary a year ago. I think every April when I update my registration I'll complain about the odometer on some thread.

Here is another one for you - don't turn off bluetooth on your phone. The app will unlock the car, but you won't be able to start the car and it will definitely freak you out the first 2-3 times it happens to you.

No trying to be funny, but it's entirely possible that members the UI designer team, and even coders don't drive or have drivers licenses. Back in the day before ride sharing, Uber, Lyft, etc.. and "work from home" you needed to get your DL as early as you could because your social life and employment depended on you driving. It's amazing how many young people don't drive nor need to drive nowadays.

It's slight hyperbole , but I'm sure there is an element of truth to it. The Rivian team that decided to put the service center in Brooklyn clearly had never driven. While Brooklyn is a 'cool' place for young people to live in NYC it is plagued with terrible traffic and terribly inconvenient for the suburban dwellers that would actually would buy a Rivian.

It'd be amazing if the Konami code brought up a Spy Hunter or Konami-equivalent, Road Fighter? Have it play on the screen with the steering wheel buttons (or like Tesla, allow a BT remote to be connected).

Anyone have a link to the most efficient camp mode ventilation settings?

Fan only is the least taxing but puts the fan motor in overdrive. On the other hand, I’m seeing a 5-6% drop overnight on auto and set for 67° when 50° outside and raining.

The computerized shadows of cars I can see through the windshield are a waste of display space -- and a waste of brain space too. The best I can say about those shadows is that I barely notice them any more.

Except for the large-font, real-time speedometer, which is very important to me and nicely done, the middle of the driver's screen is currently wasted.

Agree with all of those requests, and would add request for a third odometer to keep track of my various milage experiments to learn more about the vehicle.
