Heres’s what we’d very likely get if they designed that in: the front seats would move forward, the middles would drop down, and the fronts would stay put. Then you’d have to adjust each front seat one by one and manually re-set your position, which of course would be maddeningly frustrating. Because the world is filled with half-assed engineering laid atop Murphy’s Law, that’s what you’d end up with.
Be careful what you wish for!
Or it could be like my friend’s BMW X7 where the seats move and return but it takes at least a full minute and a lot longer if you interrupt the process in any way, like opening a door.

To be fair, there are detectors in the seats to know if a passenger is in it or not, so wouldn't be a huge software defined obstacle to overcome.
The detectors sense if a person is heavy enough to safely activate the airbag. I don't know that they sense all occupants.

There have been a few discussions here that they seem to detect somewhere around 105 - 110 lbs. There was a thread about someone's adult wife that the sensor did not detect and he was angry and going to notify NTSB.

So yeah, a person could easily be in the seat and not detected.

Is it just me or is this thing crazy? I just would have thought that when you press the buttons at the back to drop the middle row that the vehicle would tilt the front seats forward automatically so that the headrests can clear the backs.
Not crazy to hope for functionality included in a 2014 MB station wagon. (I long for a dumb cruise option to work as well as that adaptive cruise too)
That said, a different friend did get squished from this sort of feature so some of the blowback here is well founded.

Drink some Canadian beer and chill. Life could be worse. You could be in a trench in Ukraine.
Ironically, 4 generations back my ancestors were in a Ukrainian trench, although they didn't get a chance to fight back. Just shot and dropped in a trench.
