I leave mine out all the time (better visibility out the back window) except for rare instances when I have a passenger sitting in the back seat. Usually just push the "recessed button" with a flat screwdriver wrapped in painter's tape. But holy cr@p, that tool is a brilliant idea. Nice work!

I struggled to get both the left 'button' (which protrudes from the flange surrounding the rod) and the right button (which is flush with the flange and must be pushed in past the edge) pushed in at the same time. So I designed a simple tool that presses both buttons. The slot on the right side of the tool is lined up with the right post (perpendicular to the head restraint) and pushed in until it stops. Then the tool is rotated clockwise so that the curved slot on the left of the tool engages the left rod of the head restraint.

As you can see from the photo of the underside of the tool, as the tool is rotated in and under the head restraint the right button is pressed in by the boss feature and the left button is pressed in by the edge of the arc/recess. It took three tries to get the dimensions just right but it's ridiculously easy to use and works as intended.

I can post the stl file and/or the Solidworks file if folks want to print or remix the design.

If you could post it up on printables, that would be awesome.

EDIT: For some reason, I only just now noticed that you put links earlier in this thread. Thank you!

Here are the files for the tool (They are dropbox links-seems the forum software doesn't like these file types). The .stl you can load up into your preferred slicer and the Solidworks file if you can use it for a remix. If you want me to print one for you I'm happy to do it for $25 shipped USPS CONUS. Message me with your shipping address and I'll give you my PayPal or send you a PayPal invoice, your choice.
Hi, I would like to order one. My email is [email protected]. That is also my PayPal email. Thanks a lot.

I just discovered if you use a long screwdriver, you can use that to push the plastic detent from inside the post toward the outside while lifting a bit. Do both sides and it slides out. Great for making more floor usable while camping. Now can fit our 5 gallon water container behind the front seats with the 2nd row down! Yay!

This tool is brilliant! I had a colleague at work print it out for me and we were both very impressed how well it worked. Beautiful use of 3D printing.

Thank you @raylepper , I very much appreciate your efforts and contribution to the community.

Glad you like it. I had a mobile service last week and showed the tool to the tech. He was amazed. He must of done it a half dozen times, shaking his head and grinning.
