Hi Everyone! Just joined and just put down a deposit on a Glacier White Dual Motor Max R1S! I was hoping to get a Dual Motor Performance but there were none available within 5-6 weeks. HOWEVER the sales person, who was helping us, said that there was going to be an OTA update for the dual motor to make it a dual motor performance. Before placing the deposit I asked him 3 times if he was sure this was going to happen. The answer each time was a solid yes. Of course he didn't know when or how much but at this point even if its a year from now it makes me ok with getting the basic dual motor now.

Anyone else heard anything about the OTA dual motor performance upgrade?

Yes, that is correct. Haven’t heard a timeline for that being available but it will happen.

Not to hijack your thread, but has anyone driven both the base and performance dual motors? I’ve driven the performance and that’s what I’m planning to order, but the base has me curious. Is the difference dramatic?

I'm in the same boat, and would assume it would feel the same but not as quick. Still over 500hp. Maybe softer off the line and more gradual through acceleration. Everything else about the vehicle would be the identical.

I have been wondering about the difference in seat of the pants feeling as well. I think I may see if there is a dual motor base demo unit that I can drive this week. I drove the dual performance before putting the deposit down.

Nobody can guarantee they will provide OTA upgrade to Performance but it seems pretty likely. It's an easy source of revenue for Rivian.

In all purpose both trucks will be the same. The performance gets the sport mode which unlocks the extra 132 HP.

Even for the standard dual motor, the 533 HP is still a lot of power.

Good info. So I can just test drive a performance again, and alternate between All Purpose and Sport and determine if Sport is worth it. In theory thats the only difference and I don't need to test drive a base truck? I have another appointment Thurs.

I have not driven either dual motor but I have ridden in a DM performance and it felt pretty damned close to the same as my QM as far as acceleration and fun factor. I bet the non-performance DM will be plenty of fun for most people. It's still a powerful electric vehicle.

This would be up to you. I also think you get soft sand mode in the performance model. Check out the owner's guide and check the section in drive modes. It's software only but currently Rivian has no timeline so I am hesitant to say 100% that they will provide an upgrade path. If they do, it will probably be slightly higher than $5,000 upcharge for performance at delivery... Again speculation on my part.
