Thanks! Watched your video on SSD install this morning. I was curious where everyone puts them!
You'd think there would be an easier install, and maybe there is. I've been thinking about some velcro tape, but in all honesty it's sitting underneath the trays so I never see it and it doesn't rattle around down there that I can tell. Still working well

I saw one of each at my local Service Center when I dropped my car off for service 2 weeks ago. I still regret not just getting a Dune instead of my flawed Dual Max from inventory that I ended up with that has been in service since new.

I have a friend that ordered one of these about a week ago. He wouldn’t tell me how much but he said the discounts given over the phone were too good to pass up. Maybe some of you wanting one should call and see what they can get. I do know he negotiated with them for about 3 weeks. Sounds like the “wait let me talk to my manager" model is coming to Rivian.
Was this a trade-up from an existing Rivian because they wouldn't budge jack squat on price just a few weeks ago even after they screwed me around pre-delivery day?

Just went through this, pulling the trigger on the order today.

The whole you have to pay a non-refundable deposit to understand what the lease terms are actually going to look like is ridiculous. If you push on it, they will relent and agree to refund it if payments come in way higher than the estimator (or you're denied for some reason). That should just be standard - I get it for special order vehicles, but if it's in inventory, why are they creating more roadblocks to a sale?

You get even better service and offers at the Spaces if you are near one. They couldn't improve the pricing - but they did throw in freebies and have bent over backwards to make the ordering and delivery process work for me. (Dropping off trade in here in San Diego and picking up new vehicle in CO since I'm just starting a move back - qualifying it for the CO tax credit and avoiding registering it in CA).
The local space employees were great and made all sorts of promises and assurances but when I called them out during post-purchase issues I got a lot of "Who told you we would do X, Y, Z? What are their names? We can't/won't do that." and proceeded to treat me like garbage. In the end, this is the worst I have been treated relative to the amount of money having been spent.

Ah, that sucks. I'm 5 blocks away - they know I'd just pop back in again, lol (I've been there 3 times in the past 4 days). I did find out it was a GM who made that promise on the wall charger - I might have actually lost it when I changed delivery location to Phoenix now.

There's a $450 transfer fee on this one - so I just asked them to please make it so I don't have to come out of pocket for that fee - either by giving me a wall charger or waiving the fee.

Either way they've been so helpful. I placed an order and ran a credit app through Tesla for a Model X plaid to get an idea of what terms I qualify for and if I need to pay down some debt first (it was worth the $250 deposit to get an idea of what terms looked like - MSRP on that is the same as the Dune, and they're offering free charging for ownership of vehicle).

That's a great deal and I've never actually driven a Tesla. I was going to take a test drive in the plaid X to at least consider it. I tried for 3 hours and 4 or 5 Tesla reps and not a single one could set me up for a test drive in the X plaid - only the X. I told them I was cancelling otherwise, they could care less and it was cancelled. The experience is night and day difference. Rivian isn't perfect but I at least feel like everyone I've worked with has tried to make things right when they go wrong.

My original plan about 2 years ago or so was to buy a Model Y but could never get in for a test drive and then I considered a Model X especially with that free supercharging last year until the CEO went full heel. I will say with Rivian every interaction I had with them for test drives and my frequent visits to the local space to look at vehicles, take pictures, and review paint colors was great and they entertained my various questions. Props to those folks. That was up until I put my deposit down and communication shifted to a different set of fully remote people who I could only communicate with via delayed text for some and email for my guide. Most of the time I had no clue who I was even talking to when I could get a straight answer since one day to the next I would find out I was communicated via the same number/email to someone completely different. My 1-2 week delivery instantly became 5 weeks after I put my $3k non-refundable deposit down. That got me to exercise the option the local space manager and my test drive employee told me that I would not have to worry if 1) I changed my mind and wanted a different Rivian they would gladly transfer the deposit just not repeatedly 2) if there were delivery day issues they would gladly move my deposit to another vehicle and 3) They would gladly refund if I changed my mind. When I told my actual guide (remote person only could communicate with via email) she said I'm out my $3k deposit. I then contacted my remote sales guy who said the same and demanded I say who told me otherwise. After much back and forth they gave me a one-time exception but I had to select a local inventory vehicle. I reluctantly agreed because $3k is still a lot of money and I ended up with a vehicle that apparently has been sitting unsold for many months and I feel they did their best to hide the defects and rush me to purchase. I got a lot of "just sign this", "that's normal/within spec", and "just accept the vehicle and we will make you whole". I can tell you right now, if something looks or feels off do NOT accept delivery because I absolutely do not feel whole at this point.

EDIT: To add to the "not budging" part was when I change my order they kept my old purchase date so even though there was now a deal I could take advantage of if I had a fresh purchase that day they wouldn't budge. Even if I ate the $3k deposit and made a fresh order I would have still come out ahead but the wife urged me to stop messing around since this had been going on for so long already. In hindsight, I probably should have done just that or just waited that initial surprise 5 weeks.

Yeah, I think the guides are stretched to thin. I’m lucky that someone basically stepped into the guide role for me at the space because they knew my delivery situation was complicated. The Rivian SD space also seems pretty quiet most of the time I’m there, so I think they’re just being helpful, but not really their role I guess.

My actual guide doesn’t contact me anymore. I’ve been vocal about the ways the sales process could improve because I want them to be successful. They seem to listen to feedback so hopefully they’re taking it into account.

Please DM me your contact information. I want them to review this one.

Rivian actually got rid of guides last year. When I bought mine I was never assigned a guide. Instead the folks at my delivery center filled that role (and they did great)

Yeah, they don't call them a guide, but there was someone on the sales lines that basically took ownership for my transaction after the trade-in quote. I guess his role would officially conclude once delivery was under way (unlike what the Guide role was supposed to be - but this guy was more available than my original guide back in 2023 who I could never connect with.)

He was helpful when we could connect, but still difficult to coordinate. I think he took me off his list once I told him I was working with a rep at the Space.

I’m taking Delivery in the next couple days and they say they are a guide team here’s a text I’ve been working with.

Then there is a field delivery team, which is another thread.

and there is also the sales person based out of IL

It gets a bit jumbled. I took delivery this past Feb, no financing, and also had at least three people involved:
- Sales rep - call it whatever you want
- Delivery center rep - someone who will schedule pickup/delivery and prep
- Some manager - don't know if the person was on the sales or delivery team, didn't add anything to the transaction as they called repeatedly and would say they would check in with the appropriate person (sales or delivery) on their end - which never seemed to happen

That doesn't include the two phone reps I was put in touch with from the delivery center as I wanted to purchase and have installed the compact spare so it would be there at delivery. The delivery center person said they have them in stock and just to call in and let them know that I spoke to the delivery team who are ready to install the spare so it's there at delivery. Neither phone rep would sell me the spare until delivery was marked as completed in their system. So that necessitated a third call (no, you can't buy the spare from the Gear Shop without a call despite it being listed in the Gear Shop) post-delivery and a mobile service visit. Great way to waste time and money Rivian!

Oh, and there are still all the steps in the app to go through which seem repetitive with many of the things asked for by the sales or delivery team. Why can't everything just go through the app?

We took delivery on May 12. They gave us $74,500 for our 2024 R1S Quad w/ 15k miles. Plus you can use the $3,000 electric trade in offer. We said F it and ordered. Ordered online 5/11 at 9pm. Picked up the next day at 4:30pm. Whirlwind to say the least.
