My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Is this story a cover for you not wanting to let your daughter back in the truck at a pit stop? You can tell me....
“Dad, I told you there were no restaurants here” ???

An occasional derated pedestal, and an occasional call into customer service to get them to manually authorize the session when it wouldn't start automatically. I've never had to wait in line at an EA station.
Lol try Arizona my friend. You have the benefit of WA infrastructure!

I rarely fast charge, but I'd say I have maybe 20 in the past two years of ownership.

Out of those 20, I remember only 5 that I didn't have to fight for. There's precisely one EA charger heading east from Tucson and it's old, tattered, and unreliable. Unfortunately, this makes the southeast corner of Arizona really hard to go adventuring in and there is much of it to be had over there. I almost got stranded with young kids in 40C/104F trying to make it home. Not cool (figuratively AND literally)

There are more heading NW toward Phoenix which always leave me playing musical stalls and/or locations until I find one that works.

The last time I charged I was getting to the service center in Phoenix and I had to try four different locations across different companies until I found one that worked.

Generally I think you were spot on with your comment but it's important to note that areas outside of well developed EV infrastructure suffer beyond an occasional call to EA

My brother is in the NE and he's had exactly ONE problem charging with his ioniq. They have more newer and better equipment. Probably same with WA and California.

I've had to wait at EA installations in West Olympia WA, and on the east side of Eugene OR. Not at most others. PlugShare is a good indicator of likely outcomes -- it would be even better if more of us entered "check-ins" for all charging attempts, successful or not.

I mostly dislike EA for usability/reliability reasons, but their chargers are almost ubiquitous -- I give them that.

It reminds me of the old saying -- who knows where it started -- that, "Nobody goes there anymore -- it's too crowded!" https://quoteinvestigator.com/2014/08/29/too-crowded/

Very best wishes!

Rivian needs to buy EA and transform into RAN.
This would not help even if it were a good idea.

For me the value of the newly available SC locations is the number of stalls which are typically 2x or 3x those of CCS locations and their higher uptime. I have gotten by using CCS since 2021 (after owning a Tesla and a Leaf) but the inconvenience has always been the uncertainty of waiting to charge.

I can’t wait to see how this grand experiment turns out.
