Anyone else have this issue? I turn off the setting, exit, lock the vehicle and the setting comes back on. Reset didn't fix. Service is reviewing.

The sensors and warnings for Rivian is overly protective.

I always turn off the Emergency Auto Braking due to excessive warnings while driving.

It is by DEFAULT in the system to turn the automatic braking back on each time as it is a part of ADAS. It is in the owners guide also, if you care to look.

Didn't use to and lane keep stays Off. Of course adas has to brake but I'm referring to a different feature.

I believe we're talking about the same feature. It's accessed via settings, then Driver+ where you can turn off emergency auto braking. The same page that lane departure is also found.

When turned off, you should see the icon below on the driver display in yellow:

Its a part of ADAS.

In every vehicle I've owned in recent times this feature comes back on the next time I use the vehicle.

I don't think any company allows you to permanently turn off automatic emergency braking.

Why would you want to turn it off?

In my entire experience with automatic emergency braking over lots of vehicles the only time I've ever experienced an automatic emergency braking event was one time. I was driving down a steep ramp in a parking garage where the vehicle though it was going slam into the wall so it braked. It was pretty startling.

It doesn't give you a warning as that's a different system.

False Activation of automatic emergency braking leads to recalls. There have been a few of them in the industry but I don't think Rivian has an automatic emergency braking issue.

It certainly has its fair share of false braking while in adaptive cruise control but that's a different system.

Mine does it pretty often to the point where I don't want to get rear ended. I had the setting turned off all year and now it won't stay off. Scares the shit of me to have the brakes basically lock up the wheels for no reason and everything in the cabin slide off the seats.

In 22k miles my Emergency Braking has only come on one time and that was one time my foot was already headed to the "Whoa Pedal" in a mighty hurry.

If the system is triggering that much, then speak with service to have it looked at. Either that or try increasing your following distance.

Odd, I turned my auto braking off but left the warning on when I got the R1S 2 years ago. I assumed it was still off because I have had the alert a couple of times but it has not applied the brakes. I just looked and my setting for auto braking is on. ?

I do notice under the warning it has normal and early, I have mine set to early, it is possible that Early/Normal only applies to the alert and I reacted before the braking kicked in.

To be honest I think I have only seen the warning twice that I can remember in the 2 years I’ve had the R1S so it has not been an issue for me.

Edit: I did look at the setting in my Tesla, collision warning is on but auto braking is still off on the Model S.

Both of the forward settings always reset whenever we turn them off (usually the next time we go for a drive).
Having never needed this function in 30 years of driving, would appreciate a vehicle where it can be permanently disabled.
The few times this system has functioned, it actually contributed to unsafe driving conditions (just like adaptive cruise). ?

S5.4.3 The vehicle's AEB system must always return to the manufacturer's original default AEB mode that satisfies the requirements of S5.1, S5.2, and S5.3 at the initiation of each new ignition cycle, unless the vehicle is in a low-range four-wheel drive configuration selected by the driver on the previous ignition cycle designed for low-speed, off-road driving.

I’ve noticed Rivian’s AEB works differently than my previous vehicle which was a Mercedes. The Mercedes will apply max brakes even if you are already braking to stop the vehicle more quickly. I’ve never had the AEB activate in the Rivian but there were times I felt it could have as I hit the brakes quickly due to slowing traffic and the “brake now” warning lit up. I thought I wonder if it will max brake. It never has. I’ve always stopped in time though so maybe it didn’t feel the need to.

As an aside I was one of those "I've never needed this feature so just turn it off" folks for years until one time I was driving in my Audi and was tired and not paying attention. The AEB saved me from rear ending someone. Humans aren't perfect, and having this extra helper is a good thing. Mine hasn't triggered in a legitimate sense since I've owned a Rivian but I will still keep it on.
